Taking It Up The Octave
Radio 4
1997

Probably the most unsuccessful sitcom to be heard on Radio 4 in recent years, this would-be comedy-drama, revolving around the performers and management of ‘Opera Sunderland’, managed to cram in just about every sitcom fault possible (patronising set-up, crass plotting, two-dimensional characters, derivative narrative devices, grindingly tedious title).  It was written by Fintan Coyle and Tom Miles, the latter of whom also appeared in the comparatively enjoyable Miles and Millner Show.
