"So, did you have fun?" Zac asked once they were inside their room.
"Yeah. I had a nice chat with a few of my new friends from classes." She replied, throwing her jacket on her bed. "How about you?" She asked.
"I had an awesome time." He replied.
Ricki raised her eyebrows as she kicked off her shoes. "Awesome?"
"Yeah. I met this really cool girl."
"Already?"
"Yeah. It was weird. She just came up and started talking to me." He said with a laugh.
"That's nice."
"Yeah, she's really cool too."
"Cool. What's her name?" Ricki asked.
"Uh...Susan. Yeah, Susan." He said, walking into the bathroom.
Ricki froze. Susan? She cringed and then grabbed her pajamas, waiting for her turn in the bathroom.
"Oh, she sounds nice." She said through clenched teeth.
"Good, cuz I asked her out." Zac said.
"You what?!?" Ricki yelled. She startled herself.
"What?" Zac asked.
"You asked her out?"
"Well, yeah." He said.
"Isn't that a little soon? You've known her all of what, two minues and you ask her out?"
"Well yeah...Is that okay? Sheesh. She was really nice, and we really connected. I think she really likes me."
"Oh. Cool." Ricki said, walking into the bathroom.
"Yeah. I thought so."
"Hm..."
"She gave me her number, too."
"Oh...That's great." Ricki choked out.
"Well...how about you?" Zac asked, taking off his t-shirt.
"What about me?"
"You meet any worthy guys?"
Ricki snorted. "No."
"Well, why do you say it like that?"
"Zac, I told you the first day I was in here. I did not come to college to party and meet guys." She said. "And I intend to stick to that plan." She said.
"Oh." Zac said. "I think you'll change your mind." He walked out of the bathroom.
"No, because I've already made it up." Ricki said, walking over to her bed. She shut out the lights, and that was the end of the conversation.
The next week, it was Friday night and Ricki was in her room, waiting to go over to Colleen and Kim's room to watch some movies with Mary Anne. She looked at her clock. It was only five thirty, and she didn't have to go over there until six. She was just enjoying some peace and quiet in her room, reading a book. She had no idea where Zac was, not did she have the wish to know.
Suddenly the door flew open and Zac came in. He threw his bookbag on the floor and raced into the bathroom.
"What's up with you?" Ricki asked him as he began to strip down. It hadn't taken her long to discover that Zac was not shy when it came to his body. As well he shouldn't be... She thought bitterly.
"I've got a date."
"Oh." Ricki raised her eyebrows.
"What?"
"Oh nothing." She said. "What happened to Susan?"
Zac grinned. "Like I said, I've gota hot date." He said.
"Oh." Ricki said, rolling her eyes.
"I thought you liked Susan." He said, starting the shower.
Ricki realized her mistake. "Oh, I do."
"Then what was that?" He asked with a grin.
"I just...forgot who she was." Ricki said.
"Ah." Zac said, walking into the bathroom. He shut the door, and Ricki was left alone. Suddenly she didn't feel like doing much.
