The next day, Katie was feeling a little better about the whole situation. Not well enough to confront Zac about it, but better. She was not, however, ready for what would happen.
"Hey." Zac said, shifting his bookbag on his shoulder.
"Hi." katie said, pulling out her biology book.
"Are you still mad at me?" He asked.
"No, why would I be mad?" Katie asked, avoiding his gaze.
"Because you weren't home at ten last night." Zac said. Katie grimaced at the memory. Zac had called last night, and she had told Morgan to tell him that she wasn't home.
"It's no big deal, Zac."
"Are you sure?'
"Positive." Katie replied, zipping her bookbag.
"If you're sure then." He said. He turned his head and gazed off blankly down the hall and he literally felt his heart stop when he saw Brooke walking down the hall....in their direction.
Zac turned around and tried his best to hide his face, but to no avail. He had been caught.
"Hi Zac." Brooke said, walking up.
"Hi." He squeaked.
Katie jerked her head up, smacking it on her locker door.
"Ow!"
"Are you okay?" Zac asked.
"Yeah." Katie grimaced.
"Ouch, that had to hurt." Brooke said.
"Uh huh." katie said, rubbing her head.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"I'm fine." She said, shaking him off.
"Good." Brooke said with a quick smile. She turned her attention back to Zac.
"So."
Zac smiled weakly. "So." he said. He looked at Katie, who was looking faint.
"Katie?" He asked, grabbing her shoulder.
"Whaaaa...." She moaned. "I don't feel so good now that you say it..." She said. Zac caught her just before she headed for the floor.
"Oh my gosh. Katie? Katie?" He put down his bookbag and hooked his arms under hers, holding her up.
Katie moaned and tried to stand.
"Zac? Zac, are you listening to me?" Brooke asked.
"Um, Brooke, I'll talk to you later." he said. He helped Katie stand and then they slowly made their way to the nurse's office.
Brooke glared after them. She knew that girl would get in the way, one way or another. She would just have to fix that....
"Hello?" Isaac answered his phone.
"Hi." Zac said.
"Hey Zac."
"I need advice."
"My sole purpose on this planet." Isaac said with a laugh.
Zac sighed. "I'm serious."
"Okay, okay. What can I help you with?" He asked.
"Well, you know how I was just starting to become friends with Katie again?" Zac asked.
"Yeah."
"Well, there's this vice versa Valentine's day dance coming up, and I think Katie was really close to asking me, but then this other girl asked me."
"Oh." Isaac said. "That's not good."
"I know."
"And now I think Katie is mad at me." Zac replied.
"Did you say yes?"
"No...but Brooke is really pretty, and if Katie's just gonna screw around with my head, then..."
"Then you want to know if you should move on or not."
"Exactly."
Isaac inhaled, cringing. "Well, do they know each other?"
"They know of each other, I'm sure."
"Oh. That's not good either."
"Nope."
"So you're ready to move on?'
Zac sighed. "That's what I dont' know. I still really like Katie, but I like Brooke too. "
"Well first, decide which one you like." Isaac replied.
"Okay."
"And then pursue that one."
"Oh."
"Just one. That's the hard part."
"Yeah, that will be hard since Katie's pissed at me." Zac said.
"She is? Why?"
"Well....okay, she was over here the other day, and Brooke called and asked me if I had made a decision. Then she blew up at me."
"Ouch."
"yeah. And then this morning Brooke came to my locker and asked me again."
"Uh huh..."
"With Katie standing right beside me."
"That is NOT good." Isaac replied.
"No. What am I gonna do?"
Isaac thought a moment. "You still want Katie?"
"Hell yeah."
"Well...it looks like you're gonna have to turn Brooke down on this one." Isaac said.
"Oh."
"Sorry. But you can't have two." Isaac said.
"I know that....deep down." Zac admitted with a chuckle.
"It's been tried, but mostly unsuccessfull." Isaac replied.
"Thanks Ike."
"No problem."
Zac hung up the phone in just about the same place he had been when he had called Isaac. He sighed. How had this gotten so messy?
