"So I heard that Zac walked you to first hour this morning." Nicole said.
Katie rolled onto her back and propped her feet up on the wall on her bed. She shifted the phone to her other ear and stroked Snowy with the other hand.
"Yeah." SHe said.
"Uh huh." Nicole prodded.
Katie grinned. "Where did you hear this?" She asked.
"Tracy Flad was walking by and she saw him there." Nicole said proudly.
"Ulgh. I hate that girl."
"You're changing the subject." Nicole said with a knowing laugh.
Katie picked up Snowy, letting the hampster sit in her hand. "He just walked me to first hour. That's all."
"Well why was he at your locker?" Nicole asked.
"Because I gave him his sweatshirt back." Katie said.
"What sweatshirt?" Nicole asked.
"The one he lent to me on Saturday."
"Well what happened on Saturday? Sheesh, you never fill me in anymore." Nicole said with a sigh.
"Well, I went over there, and we were out in the driveway looking at the hampster, and I forgot my coat and I was cold, so he gave me his." She said simply.
"Uh huh."
"And so when he called-"
"He called? When?"
"Last night. So anyway, when he called I told him to come get it this morning." Katie said.
"I see." Nicole said.
"Well why do you say it like that?" Katie asked.
"Say it like what?"
"Like you know something I don't know."
"Because I do."
Katie was instantly interested. "What?"
"He just told me that you two were talking again." Nicole said nonchalantly.
"I see." Katie said. "What did he say?"
"Just that. He was grinning too. It was so cute."
"Nicole...." Katie whined.
"What?"
"You're making this up to be a heck of a lot more than it really is." She said.
"No I'm not, I'm just saying-"
"I know what you're saying. You think we're going to get backtogether."
"Well are you?"
Katie paused. "I don't know. I'm leaning towards no right now." She said.
"Why?" Nicole asked.
"I dunno...."
"My god Katie."
"What?" Katie asked.
"He's a great guy. You need him. You two are perfect for each other." Nicole said with a sigh.
"But he lied." Katie pointed out.
"You don't know that."
"So?"
"So I think he's telling the truth."
"Well I guess we'll never know." Katie said.
"All I'm saying is my opinion. And my opinion is that you should take him back. He obviously wants to get backtogether with you." Nicole said.
"He does not."
"Bullshit." Nicole said flatly.
"Nicole...Just...I don't know what I want right now. I just....I just need time."
