"Ulgh, I'm so glad this is our last day before Christmas break." Katie said, closing her locker.
"Me too. THen we can eat all day."
Katie laughed at him. "I though you said you were going to try and not do that anymore." She said, giving him a sideways glance as they walked to their first hour class.
Zac grinned. "Yeah, well...."
Katie smiled as they walked down the hall. It felt very good to walk to class with Zac again. It had been two weeks since they talked on the phone that night, and since then, Zac had slowly but surely been inching his way back into Katie's life.
He would stop by her locker in the mornings, he would ask to borrow notes from a class, he would give her a message from Nicole, he would drop off one of his siblings at Katie's house, or he would say hi to her in the hallways. She had to admit, she felt good now that she and Zac were on speaking terms. She didn't dread going to her locker or the chance that she would be stuck with him in a class anymore, and it felt as though a giant weight had been lifted from her shoulders.
Suddenly Meredith jumped out in front of them. "Hi you guys. Just who i wanted to see." She said.
"Oh....hi." Katie said. Zac just nodded. Meredith was not his favorite person in the world.
"I want you guys to come to my Christmas party!" She said, handing them two fliers.
"Um...I might." Katie said, taking the piece of paper. Meredith shoved one at Zac, and he read it.
"Oh, you have to come!" Meredith said.
"Why?" Zac challenged.
Meredith gave him a sour look. "because it's going to be loads of fun, that's why." She said.
"Uh huh." Zac was not convinced.
"Stop it." Katie said, elbowing him. Meredith didn't notice.
"Okay, well just RSVP by Saturday, that's tomorrow, and we'll see you there!" She said excitedly. She then flounced down the hall in search of other people.
"Merediths's ice disco party." Zac read. "What the hell does that mean?" He asked Katie.
Katie laughed. "It means ice skating in the dark with a disco ball." She said, shoving the flyer in her bookbag.
"Oh." Zac said.
"Really stupid." She said, rolling her eyes.
"Yeah." Zac echoed, walking up the stairs.
They were silent for a moment before Zac spoke. "Wanna go?" He asked her.
Katie smiled at him. "Sure."
Katie walked quickly down the hall to her locker. She wanted to dump off a few books before lunch, and she didn't want to have to wait forever in the lunch line. She rushed to her locker and opened it.
"Hi Katie." SHe jumped at the sound of the voice. She turned around to see Jeremy leaning on his locker.
"Oh...hi." She said. Jeremy was really starting to freak her out, and she didn't like to talk to him, nice or not.
"I saw you talking to Zac this morning." he said.
Katie frowned as she dug in her locker, wondering silently why it was any of his business.
"So?" She asked, pulling out her biology book.
"I don't think you should." He said.
"Why not?" She asked.
"because...you know...of all the stuff he said about you." Jeremy said, looking at her. Katie watched him for a moment before looking away quickly.
"I don't know that he said it. I don't think he did." She said haughtily.
"but how do you know?" He asked.
Katie was caught off guard. "I-I don't." She said.
Jeremy sighed. "Listen...I'm not trying to be mean, but he caused you a lot of problems. I don't think he's good for you." Jeremy said.
"Shut up." Katie growled, and with that, she spun on her heel and walked quickly away. There was something about him that she just didn't like...
That night, Katie was sitting in her room, flipping through a magazine when Morgan walked in.
"What's up?" Katie asked, rolling onto her stomach.
"I'm talking to Tay, and Zac wants to talk to you." Morgan said.
Katie accepted the phone. "Okay." She said.
"I want to talk to Taylor when you're done, so don't hang up." Morgan said.
"I won't." Katie said. "Zac?"
"Hey." He said.
"What's up?"
"Oh, I just wanted to make sure that you were still going on Sunday." He said.
"Yeah, I'll go." She said.
"Cool." He said.
"Do you skate well?" She asked.
"No." Zac replied.
"Good...neither do I." She said, rolling onto her back.
"What if it's no fun?" He asked.
"Well...then we ditch the ice and visit the concession stand." She said with a laugh.
"Sounds like a plan." He said. "Gosh, I can't believe I'm doing this."
"What?"
"Christmas disco skating." He said.
"Oh come on..."
"I guess you're right....what better way to get into the christmas spirit?" He asked with a laugh.
"Well I made sure a bunch of my girlfriends are coming, so I know I'll have someone to talk to." She said.
"I'll get some people together to then. Who cares if they're not invited?" Zac asked.
"I don't." katie said with a laugh.
"Okay...well, I'll see you there on Sunday?"
"Yup." She said.
"Bye."
"Bye." With that, He gave the phone to Taylor, and Katie gave the phone back to Morgan. It looked like a promising weekend.
