Later that morning, Judy went over to the Hanson's for a minute to talk to Diana. Katie wasn't sure what they were meeting about, but any chance to see Zac she was going to take.
She found him out back with his dad and older brothers. They were working on the new extension for the deck. She smiled when she saw Zac. He was wearing work boots with jeans, and he wasn't wearing a shirt. Katie felt her stomach flutter. Zac had a great upper body, with big, defined arms and wide shoulders.
Katie smiled to herself. He hadn't seen her.
"He's lookin' good, huh?" Judy said, sneaking up behind her.
"Oh!" She said.
Diana smiled. "He'd look even better if he'd loose that little bit of puppy fat on his stomach." She said.
"Uh....i guess." She said.
"Zac's always had a little bit there, I'm not sure why. He's always been the most active. Otherwise I suppose he's pretty looking." She said.
"Oh definitely." Katie replied, still looking at Zac. She didn't want him to loose his little bit of puppy fat. It was cute, and she know it sounded strange, but he was great to hug because he was so soft and squishy. she smiled at her own thought, as though she had said it aloud.
"Oh Katie." Diana said. "You should see him. Down in the basement, twice a day, sometimes three times a day with those weights." She said with a smile.
"Really?" Katie asked.
"Uh huh." Diana said.
"I had no idea."
"He wants so hard to make you notice him." She said. "he's been trying for a month." She laughed. "It's almost rediculous."
"Oh?"
"He's in the bathroom forever, making sure his hair is just right, fixing his shirt." She said. "You should have seen him before that dance." SHe said.
"He looked nice."
"Well it took him long enough."
Suddenly the sliding glass door from the deck opened. Taylor, Isaac and Zac walked in.
"Hi Katie." He said, walking past her. They looked each other up and down before he walked into the kitchen with his brothers.
"Oh, get out of here." Diana said, lightly smacking him on the shoulder. "You're all sweaty and you smell." She said.
She turned around to Judy and Katie. "Boys." She said.
The two women walked into the kichen, leaving Katie by the door. Zac walked back over to her after his mother had left.
"Hi." he said again.
"Hi." She replied.
"You coming to the party tonight?"
"Yeah." She said. "You?"
"Wouldn't miss it." He said.
She smiled. "Um, i had a really good time last night."
"Me too." he said.
He heard his mother coming. "Well, i'd better go." he said, opening the door. "Besides, i'm all stinky." he said, making a face.
"I don't care." She said.
Zac looked behind him quickly to make sure his mother wasn't out of the kitchen. As he walked by Katie he quickly leaned over and planted a kiss on her cheek.
"Zac!" She said with a giggle.
He just shrugged and opened the door.
She laughed.
"Hey Katie?"
"Yeah?"
"Ian won't be there." He said.
"Oh he won't?"
"Nope."
"Well then." SHe said. "I'm really looking forward to it now."
He smiled, then walked out the door to return to work, and Katie and Judy left.
