Katie looked over at her clock, and saw that it was nearly eight in the evening.
"I'd better call Zac and tell him the good news." She said to herself, walking over to the door that separated her room with Morgan's.
She reminded herself to knock, then proceeded to enter at her sister's say. Morgan was aparently getting ready to go out, walking around her room, doing her hair. Katie sat down on her sister's bed.
"What's up?" Morgan said.
"Can i use your phone?" She asked.
"Sure. What for?"
"Well, Zac sent me roses today, and now he's asking me out." Katie said with a smile.
"He's asking you out?" Morgan gasped.
"Well...yeah." katie said unsurely.
"Wait wait wait." Morgan said, plopping down on the bed beside her. "This is the guy that two days ago, you couldn't even stand to be in the same room with? And what about that Ian guy you were gushing about just a few hours ago?"
"Well...." her sister cut her off. "Junior high romances."
"Hey, i'm gonna be a freshman, i'm not in junior high anymore." Katie said defensively.
"Okay, okay. So he just sends you roses, and shazam, you're going out with him? Man, i wish my life was that simple." Morgan said shaking her head.
Katie just laughed.
"What about Ian? Doesn't he like you?"
"Well, yeah. i kinda need some advice on that."
"What do you think you're going to do?"
"That's the problem, i don't know. I mean, i liked Ian, but when Zac sent me the roses, everthing changed."
"Oh." Morgan said.
"I don't know what to do. I mean, i want to go out with Zac so bad, but i'm not sure about how i feel about Ian."
"Okay..."
"I want to be friends with him, because i like Zac, and i don't want there to be any problems with that." katie said.
"What do you mean?"
"I don't want there to be problems with them."
"They know each other?" Morgan asked.
"Yeah. They're like, best friends." Katie said.
"Oh..." Morgan said.
"What?"
"That's just kinda iffy." Morgan said.
"I can kinda see that."
"Just remember to act innocent if they ever fight about it."
"Morgan, you and i both know that won't work." Katie said witha laugh.
"Yeah, but it's usually worth a shot." Morgan said, getting up from the bed.
"I'll remember that."
"You do that." Morgan said.
"I will. Hey can i use your phone?"
"Yeah."
"That's the main reason i came in here, i just forgot." Katie said.
"Here." Morgan said, handing her the phone.
"Thanks." Katie said.
"No prob. Just don't loose it."
"Okay." Katie said, walking to the door.
"And don't forget what i said!" Morgan yelled as katie shut the door.
katie went back into her room and chuckled to herself. Back home, her sister had gone on only one or two dates with most of the guys in school. She could never decide, and she was almost always the one to break it off. Katie had never seen her sister cry over a boy, and Katie was willing to do so also.
She looked at her bullitin board, where Nicole had secretly posted Zac's number the week before on a post-it. Katie turned on the phone, then paused. The excitement was rising in her stomach, and she switched it off. She needed to calm down. She couldnt' sound like a hyperactive idiot. She needed to be calm and cool, just like her sister. She took a few deep breaths, and then reached to turn it on when it rang.
She inhaled sharply and jumped. What if it was Nicole? Or even worse, what if it was Zac? She decided to just wait, and she sighed in relief when she heard her melissa's shrill cry that she had the phone. Katie poked her head outside her door to see if she knew who it was. She heard Judy take the phone, and then a few seconds later, the sound of someone coming upstairs.
Katie quietly closed her door, then ran to her bed, half wanting it to be for her, and half of her wishing it was for Sandra.
Judy poked her head inside the door. "I'd say somebody is tired of waiting."
"SHHH!!" Katie quieted her.
"It's Zac." Judy said, holding back a giggle. With that she shut the door, and katie could hear her laughing all the way down the hall.
She took a deep breath, then said "hello?"
"Uh, hi. katie?"
"Zac?"
"Yeah."
"Oh, i'm so glad you called!" She said, her nervousness leaving her.
"You are?"
"YES! I was just going to call you and thank you for the roses, they were gorgeous! No one has ever sent those to me. I just want to say, yes i'll go out with you. But gosh, it was such a surprize, i mean, i had no idea the was coming, and-"
"Katie!"
"What?" She said.
"What?" He asked.
"Um..."
"What are you talking about?" He said.
"I don't know, what are you talking about?"
"Who sent you roses? Who asked you out?"
"You did!"
"What?"
"YOu mean....You didn't?" She said, sitting down on her bed. Her stomach felt queasy.
"No." He said slowly.
"Oh my gosh." She said.
"What are you talking about?" WHo sent you roses?"
"Uh...why did you call then?"
"Well, Nicole told me you played soccer, and i was just wondering if you wanted to come and play with me and a few other people Satuday at the park." He said quickly.
"Oh my gosh." She said, as she put the pieces together.
"What? What's wrong? What's going on?"
"Um, i have to go." She said.
"What?"
"I'll talk to you later." She said.
"Are you gonna go tomorrow?"
"Uh, sure." She said, just wanting to get off the phone.
"Okay, be there at two, rain or shine." he said.
"Okay fine bye!" She said quickly hanging up.
She suddenly felt like the floor had been pulled up from beneath her.
