i want you to want me
to all those who are a little confused, this is 'i want you to want me'. it is to be placed in time a few years after 'wishing heart' okay? it is the second part of the 'Rock Star' series. ('wishing heart', 'i want you to want me', and 'Viva Rock stars') Ok?
"Taylor! Man, come on, we gotta get going!" Dustin shouted up the steps.
"Okay, okay, I'm coming!" Seventeen-year old Taylor said as he bounded down the steps three at a time, his hair still wet from his shower.
"Well, we gotta meet Shirley there, and you still gotta go pick up what's her name." Dustin said, tossing Taylor's keys to him.
"By the way, what is her name?" Taylor said.
"Man, you gotta stop dating around like this. These girls just use and abuse you. Besides, I have no idea what her name is. Tiffany, Heather, Jennifer, god, there's millions of them."
"Well, she's gonna want me to introduce her."
"Well you should have at least remembered her name!" Dustin said, yanking the door to Taylor's truck open.
"Okay, how's this?" He asked, sticking the key in the ignition. "You shake her hand and ask her what her name is…you know how you do it."
"Yeah, but I might come off as a flirt."
"I don't care what you do with this one, I'm just trying to pass a Saturday night. Flirt all you want." Taylor said, backing out of the driveway.
"Cool. Don't you care at all that I'm going to flirt with your date?"
"No, not really." Taylor said with a shrug.
"Really?" Dustin asked.
"Yeah, I mean, it's not like I'm looking for something long term. Like I said, I'm just trying to entertain myself." Taylor said.
"Yeah, I have a feeling my date feels the same way. She was less that thrilled when I asked her out."
"No kidding?"
"Yeah. One of my friends from church is her cousin. He gave me her number." Dustin said.
Taylor just shook his head and chuckled at his friend's antics. It was funny to see the lengths he'd go through to get a date or talk to a girl.
"You never cease to amaze me." Taylor said.
"Well, she looked hot, even if she doesn't have shit for a personality."
"But you've never even had a real conversation with her." Taylor said, looking at him.
"No, but she's hot. I mean, we're young, I just wanna see if she'll make out with me before the night is over." Dustin said.
"Well, from the way it sounds, you're going to have quite the night." Taylor said, turning off his road.
"Yeah, I know!" Dustin said, settling back in his seat.
They two boys were out on a Saturday night to go on a double date. Taylor had met a girl (sort of) and Dustin had managed to convince this Shirley girl that she wanted to go out with him. They were to pick up what's her name, and then meet Shirley at the movie theater, where they were to see a cheesy horror flick.
Taylor swerved to the right, and turned onto the street the girl had said she lived on. He pulled into her driveway, and reached over to shut off the truck when Dustin grabbed his hand.
"What are you doing man? Just honk, she'll get the message." He said, looking at the house.
"Oh, yeah." Taylor said, honking the horn.
A few seconds passed before a tall, blonde girl came teetering out the door, down the steps and to the truck. Taylor opened the door for her as Dust climbed in the back.
"Hi Taylor!" She said, kissing him on the cheek.
Taylor jumped in surprise, and smiled weakly at her in response. She slammed the door, and turned to look behind her, where she saw Dustin smiling sheepishly at her. Taylor was quickly forgotten, according to the plan.
"Well well well….Now who are YOU?" Dustin said, taking her hand, the suave king that he was.
"Oh, I'm Heather." She said, smiling at him. Dustin stole a knowing glance at Taylor. He just smiled and pulled out of her driveway.
Dustin and Heather talked the whole way over, Taylor not even caring that his date was being stolen. Ah, he thought, there were a million of them out there like her anyway. Tall, thin, blonde, and blue eyed. He laughed at the way women had always thrown themselves at him, but at seventeen, he could now date them.
They stood out beside his truck for a few minutes before they heard a rumbling sound. Taylor looked over just in time to see a light teal colored Chevy come rumbling up behind him, nearly ramming into the back of him. He jumped forwards just in time. He was about to turn around and yell, when a girl stepped out. His breath caught in his throat.
She had reddish brown curly hair that trailed down the middle of her back, and what he could tell, green eyes. She wasn't nearly as tall as Heather, who was near 5'11", but was shorter and around 5'6 or so. She was wearing loose, slightly flared jeans with a violet tank top. Over that was a light Jean jacket. He looked at her feet and saw chunky Doc Martens. Cool, he thought. This girl is dressed to kill.
She walked over to him, a bitter look on her face. She saw Dustin and Heather standing rather close and gawking at her. She just looked at Taylor.
"I know, I'm late. I'm sorry." She said, with an exasperated tone.
"No, that's okay, we just pulled up. No harm." Taylor said, almost stumbling over his words.
"Okay, then let's get going, and get this over with." She said, walking into the theater, the three of them in tow.
Once they were in the line, Dustin spoke up.
"So, do you two know each other?" He asked.
She turned and gave an icy glance to Heather.
"No." They both said.
"Okay." Dustin said, shoving his hands in his pocket. "Well, this is heather, and that's Taylor." He said, pointing them out.
"Oh, you're Dustin?" She said, looking surprised.
"Yeah, who did you think I was? He asked.
"Oh, I just thought you were some guy tagging along because he couldn't find anything better to do with his Saturday night." She said flatly.
"What about Heather? Didn't you see her?" He asked.
"Unfortunately." She said.
Taylor snorted, and was instantly elbowed by Dustin and got a dirty glance from Heather. He smiled and turned his head to look at the fascinating posters on the other wall.
He then decided to just shut his mouth before he got himself into some serious trouble.
Three hours later, they were all sitting in a booth at a local diner, which was swarming with high school students and booming with music. Taylor and Heather were sitting across from Shirley and Dustin.
They had just placed their orders when Heather announced that she was going to the bathroom and that she wanted to go alone.
When she was out of earshot, Shirley snorted. "Like I'd want to go to the bathroom and powder my nose with her." She said in a sarcastic voice.
Taylor laughed, and Dustin looked at her. Heather had been making snide comments about Taylor and Dustin's lack in interest of her, and Shirley had been shooting them right back, while Taylor quietly watched the scenes and Dustin drooled over Shirley. Taylor had marveled all night at her beauty, and had been wondering how something so pretty could be such a beast. They had been quite the group.
"We could go to the bathroom together, Dustin said, leaning closer to her. Taylor held his breath in anticipation to see what she would do.
"Ugh, not even in my nightmares." She said, pushing him away.
"Snake." She mumbled. Taylor let out his breath and their food was set on the table.
"Well, somebody is jealous." Dustin said, looking at her.
"Jealous of what? That little bimbo?" She said, looking at him.
"What bimbo?" Heather said, sitting back down. She had been trying to get everyone's attention all night (especially Taylor's) and she now had it. Dustin and Taylor held their breaths, once again.
"Gee, there's only two of us here." Shirley grumbled.
Heather just glared and sat down.
They ate in silence for a few minutes when suddenly Shirley screamed and threw her chocolate shake all over Dustin's shirt.
Just then Taylor screamed as Heather took put her hand on his leg.
"What the hell was that for?" Dustin yelled, grabbing tons of napkins.
"Oh, I think you know." She said, and now had the attention of the surrounding five tables. "I am getting the hell out of here." She said, climbing over Dustin onto the table. She jumped off and ran outside.
"Taylor, what's wrong?" Heather asked, looking at him.
"Ah, please don't do that." He said.
"Why?" She said in a breathy voice. "Does it excite you?"
"Um, no, I think I need some fresh air." He mumbled, and he too got the hell out of there to leave Dustin and Heather alone at the booth. He pushed by dancing couples, tables, waitresses, and more people until he was out of the crowded diner and into the parking lot, where he saw Shirley waiting by his truck, her elbows propped up against the back.
He walked up to her. "Shirley?" He called, not wanting to surprise her and get socked.
She looked up, her green eyes blurred with tears. "What do you want?" She asked, barely looking at him.
"I just want to help." He said.
"Yeah, well I don't need any." She said.
"Well, would you let me take you home?"
"My car is still at the movie theater." She said, sniffing.
"Well I'll take you to get it. I mean, I'm not Dustin or anything. You can trust me." He said softly.
"How do you know you won't try and put your hands between my legs like that jerk did? I mean, I had an awful time tonight." She said, wiping her eyes.
"I know, and I'm sorry." He said. "But will you just give me a chance?"
She looked at him, long and hard. "We aren't talking about my car, are we?"
he looked at the ground.
"Look at me." She said.
"No." He said quickly.
"Well, believe it or not, I don't date around like you do, and I don't really want to start." She said, turning around.
"Well, I don't date around that much." He said. "Besides, I won't do anything you don't like, and I'm not even saying that I want to date you." She turned around.
"Wait, no, I said that wrong. I meant to say that we could just be friends." He said. He opened the door to his truck.
She looked at him for a few minutes.
"You coming?" He asked.
"Yeah." She said, climbing in. He breathed a sigh of relief. At least she knew how he felt.
