TWO TIMERS
Chapter 3
Colleen's View

I had been lying awake, staring at the ceiling for the longest time. I couldn't bring myself to fall asleep. Brian had conked out a few hours ago, his arm draped protectively around my waist. All I could think about was Nick. The loud ringing of the phone pulled me out of my troubled thoughts. I carefully slid out from underneath Brian's arm, and ran to answer the phone.

"Hello?"

"Col, it's me," Sophia replied.

"Oh, hey. You couldn't sleep either, huh?"

"Nope! I'm so fucking happy, you have no idea," she laughed.

"Why? What happened?"

"Not only do I have Kevin in the palm of my hands… but now I've got AJ too. It's good stuff," she said, excitedly.

"Now, how'd ya manage that?"

"It wasn't that hard. Kevin liked me from the beginning, and AJ was into me by the end of the night."

"Aw, you lucky little bitch," I joked.

"Yeah, well I saw the way you were looking at Nick… you like him, don't you?" she inquired.

"Yeah, I really do. But we can't let anyone know that. Supposedly him and Brian are best friends," I said, annoyed that Nick was kinda off-limits to me… number one: he was Brian's best friend; number two: I was sorta going out with Brian…

"Col, if you like the guy, go get him!"

"Nah, I like Brian a lot too. I think he's gonna be the first guy I remain faithful to," I declared. Then I realized that Nick and I had kissed… oh well, one little kiss doesn't hurt.

"Colleen… Brian doesn't have to know! I bet Nick would keep it from him. Come on… you know you wanna fuck him," she whispered.

"Sophia, don't say shit like that. I don't feel like cheating on Brian. He's way too sweet. He doesn't deserve that. He even told me he loved me," I sighed.

"Really? And what did you say when he told you that?"

"I kinda just smiled, and kissed him. I didn't wanna have to answer. I don't know if I love him."

"Have you two had sex yet?"

"Nope," I mumbled, knowing that I was gonna be teased forever.

"Hmm… then you definitely have to go after Nick," she stated firmly.

"Are you really going to mess around with Kevin and AJ?"

"Oh, yeah. It's gonna be fun."

"How do you plan on doing that? They're friends, Sophia."

"So? I'll just tell Kevin to keep our relationship a secret, and I'll tell AJ the same thing. And I know they will both listen to me, 'cause they adore me," she half-joked.

"You're too much," I laughed.

"I know, I know. Listen, I gotta go… but promise me one thing?"

"What?" I asked, curious as to what I had to promise her this time.

"Promise me that you will consider messing with Nick."

"Fine, I will consider it. But that doesn't mean I'm definitely going to do it," I said.

"Alright, well at least you'll give it some thought. I'll talk to you later."

"Ok, bye," I mumbled, slamming down the phone.

"Sweetie, who was on the phone?" Brian yawned, slowly walking over to me.

"Oh, um, Brian… when did you wake up?" I stammered, afraid that he had heard my conversation.

"Just now. Who was on the phone?" he repeated.

"Sophia…"

"I noticed her and Kevin were getting along rather well. Actually, her and AJ were getting along pretty well too. Ha, she's gonna have to go back and forth with them!" he laughed, jokingly.

I would've laughed at his joke… if it had been one.

Nick's View

Damn, why couldn't I fall asleep? Every time I would come close to falling asleep, I would think of Brian's girlfriend. I really had to back off. Clearly this girl was off the market. Brian was already pissed off at me. If only she wasn't so hot… if only she wasn't such a great kisser.

I decided to give Brian a call. Hopefully Colleen would pick up the phone.

"Hello?" came a girl's voice, after the third ring.

"Colleen?"

"Yeah…"

"It's Nick," I whispered, as if Brian may actually hear me.

"Nick? What are you calling here for?" she asked, tripping over her words like she did earlier tonight.

"If I were a phony, I'd say I was calling to talk to Brian. But, since I'm not, I will tell you the truth… I called to talk to you. I can't stop thinking about you," I stated, taking a deep breath.

"Why's that?"

"Because you're an amazing girl."

I heard a muffled voice in the background. It was definitely Brian. I heard Col say something to him, then I heard a door close.

"Col, what's going on?"

"Sorry, Brian asked who was on the phone. I told him it was Sophia," she replied, her voice lowered to a whisper.

"I need to see you again."

"I can't see you, Nick. I'm with Brian… remember?"

"So? He doesn't have to know. I want you," I growled.

"You and him are best friends…"

"And we'll remain best friends as long as he doesn't find out," I shot back.

"No, I can't cheat on him. That's the person I used to be. But now I wanna be faithful, I wanna be loyal to Brian. He deserves that much."

"Ok. But let me tell ya, I'll change your mind," I stated, trying to sound as seductive as possible.

"No, Nick, you won't change my mind. Goodbye."

And with that, she hung up on me. I put down the phone, and laid my head in my hands.

There has to be some way to convince her. She can't hold back forever.

Sophia's View

"Ugh, if I have to watch one more episode of Three's Company, I think I'm gonna kill myself!" I shrieked, throwing down the remote.

Ring… Ring…

"Hello?"

"Sophia? It's Kevin. I hope I'm not calling too late."

"Oh, hi Kevin. Nah, I'm still wide awake. What's up?"

"Nothing really. Just wanted to hear your voice," he said. I couldn't help but smile… the guy loved me.

Beep… Beep…

"Kevin, can you hold on a minute? I have another call."

"Sure," he replied.

I clicked on the flash button, hoping it was someone good on the other line.

"Hello?"

"Baby, it's AJ! How's it going?" Yep, it was definitely someone good.

"Hey sweetie, I'm alright. Isn't it way past your bedtime?" I giggled.

"Nah, I'm watching Three's Company," he laughed.

"No kidding? Me too!"

"It's not a bad show…"

"Well, after you've sat through about five or six episodes of it… it's definitely a bad show."

"Yeah, I guess so."

"Oh, AJ, hold on a second. I have someone waiting on the other line," I said, totally forgetting about Kevin.

"Sure thing doll."

"Kevin? I'm so sorry!"

"No problem. So, when can I see you?"

"Whenever you want baby," I flirted, "Be right back."

I quickly switched to the other line, "AJ? You still there?"

"Yep. So, when can I see you?"

"Whenever you want baby," I giggled. I was so bad…

Colleen's View

Brian had fallen back to sleep, and was snoring loudly. I sat up, staring at the ceiling yet again. I kept thinking about what Sophia had said, "Brian doesn't have to know! I bet Nick would keep it from him." I really liked Nick… or was it all lust? Lust is definitely more powerful than love. But I cared a lot for Brian. So what was more controlling? My care towards Brian, or my lust for Nick?

I shook my head forcefully, You're wrong Sophia… totally wrong.
