Never Ending Love-Chapter Nine

“Hi, welcome to St. Elizabeth Hospital, may I help you?” The young brunette at the front desk of the hospital asked Kayla. “Yes, um, I’m here for Mr. Justin Timbelake,” she asked nervously, shutting her eyes, trying to block out the smell of the hospital and seeing the nearly-dead patients around in wheelchairs. The nurse cleared her throat and Kayla opened her eyes. “And you are..?” she asked. “His sister. Kayla Wilson,” she said, opening her eyes. “Yes, he says you can come,” she said. “He’s in room 906, floor 9; room 06.” “Thanks!” she said, and rushed off.
“Justin?” Kayla asked as she walked inside the eerie room. She looked onto the bed, where Justin lay. He didn’t look so bad, she decided. Just a little pale and tired. She walked causiously over to the bedside, and sat on the wooden chair. His eyes had lost the blue glow that they usually had. It scared her. She stood up, getting ready to leave. She touched his hand, and immediately stepped back. His fingers were so cold and pale. Suddenly, his eyes fluttered open, shut, open, shut, and finally stayed open.
“Kay...is that you?” he asked. She turned to him. “Yeah, Sweetie. How are you?” she asked timidly. “I’m not that contagious!” he said, chuckling for the first time. His laugh was high-pitched and strained. There was an arkward silence in the air. “What are the guys—“ “I’m sorry, Justin,” she said at the same moment. “Sorry for what? The black-out? You’re wrong, Kayla. It’s bull whatever you think.” He said. “No, it’s not. I knew that they were fans, and I shouldn’t have taken chances. Now look where we are.” She said, tears forming in her eyes. “Shh...Kayla, it’s fine. I had a lot on my mind, anyway. Plus, atleast I know we have fans at your school!” He started, sort of chuckling a bit. She cut him off. “Yeah right. What were you thinking about?” she asked. “The wedding, the tour, the guys...and,” “And...?” “You.” He said. She leaned over to the bed, and kissed him on the lips. A sisterly-brother kiss. She saw some of the color return to his cheeks. “Thanks Justin, for being there. And caring for me. It means so much to me.” She said. “No problem, sis.” He replied, smiling.
“Wanna see the guys?” she asked him. “Sure. Bye Kay,” “Bye, Justin.” Kayla left the room and took the elevator down to the 5th floor, where the waiting room was. She stepped out of the elevator, tugging her sweater as the sudden air con hit her. She shivered. She walked down the halls, the doors looming out in front of her. Suddenly, she bumped into someone.
“Oh, I’m so sorry!” she gasped, to the man, who was about 18 or 19. He was dressed in a green cloak. “It’s alright,” he said, with a Southern accent, less strong than Lance’s. “I’m Kayla Wilson,” “Jake Herrsburg,” he replied, smiling. “What grade? 12th?” he asked. “How’d you know?” she asked. “I don’t know. Lucky guess. I’m 19. Got this part-time job.” He said, seriously. “I want to be a doctor. So...what brings you here?” he asked curiously. “My brother, uh, Justin,” she started, not saying his last name. “Timberlake?” he asked. “Uh, yeah. Shh. I’m gonna go see Lance, Joey, Chris, and Jace right now, so I’ll have to see ya around?” “Yeah, sure. Bye, Kayla Wilson,” he said playfully. “Anytime, Jake Herrsburg” she retorted. She left, dazed. She thumped herself on the head. Why didn’t she get the dude’s phone number??? She raced back, and caught up with him. “Sorry,” she said breathlessly, “but, can I have a number I could reach you at?” she asked. He smiled. “Sure. 786-0956” he said, scribbling it down on a piece of paper. “Thanks” “You’re Welcome” She left, towards the waiting room.
