Chapter 8

Another few hours passed quickly, after which it was time for Courtney and Dakota to go back home. Courtney closed the door once they were both inside.

“So, you have fun?” she asked. “Yes, I did. I had a great time.” Dakota smiled. Courtney looked at her friend, trying not to dig for information. “Does JC have anything to do with that?” she asked finally.

Dakota looked at Courtney, stunned. She’d hadn’t expected that question, not yet anyway. Courtney smiled. “Girl, I think it’s great that you two are hitting it off… so tell me. Do you like him?”

Dakota blushed, but then nodded. “I think so.” She said smiling. “You think so? D, this is like the best guy in the world here….” She said, shocked. “Alright, alright, Court! Settle down. I do, I like him, I just don’t want to get into anything serious right now.” Dakota explained.

Courtney looked from Dakota to the floor. “I’m sorry, D. I didn’t mean to push.” Courtney apologized. “That’s ok. I just wanna take things slow. Plus, we don’t even know what he’s thinking….” She said. “Oh please!” Courtney smiled. “The man couldn’t have fell harder for you if I would’ve pushed him!” she said.

Dakota blushed once more, or still, she couldn’t tell. “And what about Lance?” Dakota asked, changing the subject, as always. “Lance? Whatever do you mean….” She sneered, smiling.

“JC and I were marveling in your happiness earlier today. You two looked like a couple of high school kids with a crush!” she laughed. “I’ll tell ya D, I feel like a high school kid with a crush. I can’t help it though. Do you think I’m crazy?” she asked finally. “No. In fact, I think you’d be crazy if you didn’t say anything to him.” She said seriously. “It’s obvious that the man likes you in return. I say go for it.”

Courtney smiled. “Thanks D. Your support means a lot.” “Anytime.” Dakota smiled. “Anytime.” “And for the record, I wanna say that I think you and Jace is a brilliant idea.” Courtney said. “Good.” Dakota said. “I’m glad you think so”.
