Dakota let herself into the studio. It was early. Too early. How she survived on the few hours of sleep like she did was beyond her line of comprehension. But here she was, six in the morning ready to dance away any confusions.
5, 6, 7, 8..
Dakota counted off in her head. A routine she’d been working on in months before had come back to haunt her. Her creative juices were flowing and work was being accomplished. She looked at the clock on the wall. 8 O’clock. An hour till opening, and two till her first appointment.

“Thanks for breakfast, Josh” Courtney smiled. “But it wasn’t necessary.” She said. “Ahh. You’re welcome. I figured with the breakfast I made you the other day, the term ‘breakfast’ needed some redemption.” He laughed. “Besides, I haven’t gotten to spend time alone with you so your $3.99 breakfast was well worth the money.” He said “Aww. Now Josh you’re not supposed to be that sweet.” She said. “Oh yeah? Who said?” he answered. “Me. I don’t wanna start thinkin’ that I’m seeing the wrong guy.” She smiled, nudging him in the side. Josh laughed and the two continued on route to the studio.
The music blared from the large studio as Courtney unlocked the front door. Courtney shook her head, never guessing Dakota would be up and here this early. “Sounds like someone’s getting an early start.” Josh amused. Courtney couldn’t help but notice the smile on his face when referring to Dakota. “You can go back. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind” Courtney interrupted his thoughts. “You sure?” he asked. “I don’t wanna interrupt…” “Josh… just go!” Courtney smiled shaking her head. He could be so difficult sometimes, but be completely adorable in the process.
Josh stood in the doorway watching Dakota work out a move. He noticed her knee twitch when she was thinking about something. He chuckled to himself. It was the little things. The little things she did that kept him coming back for more. Her voice distracted him, mid-thought.
“Hey Josh” she smiled, catching his eye. He snapped himself back to reality and smiled. “Hi Dakota,” his smile still intact. “You have this nasty little habit of sneaking up on me” she smiled. “Do I?” he questioned, jokingly.
“So, did you like what you saw?” Dakota asked innocently. “Well, I, um… Is this a trick question?” stammered JC. “The dance, JC. The dance.” She smiled in her own amusement. “The dance? Oh, yeah, I did. How long have been rehearsing that one?” he asked. “Um” she started, looking at the clock, “about an hour. I felt inspired this morning.” She shrugged. He laughed. “Must be from all the sleep you got last night.” He joked. “Damn. That’s embarrassing. How early did I fall asleep on you?” she winced. Josh laughed. “Not at all. It was well past nine o’clock.” “JC! It was not that early!” she laughed. “But really, I’m sorry about that. I feel so rude.” Josh shook his head. “Don’t. But in any case, I do plan on having you make it up to me.” He said, eyeing her.
“Oh?” she questioned. “Yeah. BBQ over at Justin’s tonight. We leave tomorrow morning for the next city, so we figured we’d have one last get together with you and Court.” JC answered. “Sounds like a plan.” She said smiling. JC held her gaze a tad longer than normal, his brain didn’t comprehend the ‘look away’ command when Dakota was around.
Dakota hit the showers after JC decided that it was time for him to go. The ‘real world’ was starting to wake and him plus being out and about with no security was
not a good idea.
