*Chapter 12*

But it was too late. The car came racing toward them at an all too fast speed and T-boned them. The next sound Mercedes heard was the siren of the ambulance. The impact had been enough to knock them unconscious.
 

"Ma'am? Ma'am, can you hear me?" The paramedic asked her. "Are you ok?"
 

"I don't know."
 

They pulled them all out of the car, put them in the ambulances, and took them to the hospital. Mercedes had passed out during the ride to the hospital. When she awoke, she saw a nurse standing over her. "Are my friends ok?"
 

"I'm sorry?"
 

"Are my friends ok? We were all in the car together."
 

"What are their names?"
 

"Cassidy Starr, Gracie Heart , and Sarah Lawrence ."
 

"Ok, I'll go check on that."
 

"Thanks. Is there a phone I can use?"
 

"Yes, right beside your bed. Dial 9 to get out."
 

"Thanks." Mercedes picked up the phone and called her mother. "Hello, mom?"
 

"Oh sweetie! You're ok. Thank God. The hospital called and told me what happened. Last I heard, you were still unconscious."
 

"I just woke up"
 

"Okay. I was on my way home, but I'll stop by the hospital now that you're awake."
 

"See ya then." She hung up the phone. "Hmm..i should call Nick." And so she did.
 

"Hello?"
 

"Hey Nick. It's Mercedes."
 

"Oh hey! What's up?"
 

Before I tell you anything, I want you to know that I'm ok."
 

"Oh my God...What happened?"
 

"I got in a car accident. I was in mid turn, and I got T-boned."
 

"Was anyone else in the car with you?"
 

"Yeah."
 

"Who?"
 

"Cass and two of our other friends, Gracie, and Sarah."
 

"How are they?"
 

"I don't know. You had the nurse check."
 

 The nurse popped her head in the room. "Miss you have a visitor."
 

"Okay, thanks."
 

Her mom walked in and over to Mercedes. "Oh hunny! I'm so glad you're ok! Oh, I'm sorry. I'll let you finish talking."
 

"Who's that?" Nick inquired.
 

"Oh, that's my mom."
 

"Oh, I'll let you go then."
 

"You should come down. If you want to, that is. I'm at St. Joseph Hospital. Room 213."
 

"Ok...When do you want me to stop by?"
 

"Anytime."
 

"K, I'll see you in a little."
 

"Ok, later." She hung up the phone. Just then, the nurse walked in.

"I got the info on your friends. Cassidy Starr is actually right next to you. Sarah Lawrence and Gracie Heart are two rooms down in room 215."
 

"Thank you. Could you open the curtain?"
 

"Yeah, sure." The nurse walked over and opened the curtain to reveal a still unconscious Cassidy, and then left.
 

"I'm so glad you're ok. I got a call at work from the hospital, explaining what happened. I would have left then, but they said you were still unconscious, and that I should stay at work, and try to keep my mind off it. I figured it was probably best."
 

"Yeah," Mercedes replied, somewhat distantly. She was still sort of out of it, plus she was worried about her friends. She looked over at Cassidy. She had a cut on her forehead. 'I wonder how Gracie and Sarah are doing.' She thought.
 

The doctor interrupted her thoughts as he walked in. "Hello. Feeling any better?"
 

"Yeah, some."
 

"Good, glad to hear it. We're still going to keep you over night, for observation."
 

"Can I ask you something?" The doctor nodded his head yes. "How are my friends doing? Their names are Cassidy Starr, She's right next to me, Gracie Fox, and Sarah Bryant. The nurse said they're in room 215."
 

The doctor walked over and looked at Cassidy's chart. "Well, she's doing ok. She has a cut on her head, and a fractured wrist. All in all, not to bad. We're going to keep her over night as well. I'll check in on your friends."
 

"Thank you."
 

The doctor walked out of the room. He returned a few moments later. "They're doing pretty well also. Sarah, has a head wound, and a few bumps and busies, and Gracie has whip lash, and bumps and busies. You girls are really lucky. If you hadn't been wearing your seat bleats, it would have been much worse."
 

Mercedes breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you so much."
 

"You're welcome." The doctor turned and left.
 

Mercedes and her mom talked for a while, then Mercedes dozed off.
