Neo Cards

The Neo Cards are the new pokemon cards out in japan for the new pokemon from the Gold & Silver versions of Pokemon. There are a few things you should know about neo cards.

Overall, the neo set has some very good cards, but they have screwed up weaknesses and resistances.

For instance, Upaa, a promo card has weakness to grass, but a resistance to electric attacks. Another example: Haganeru, the steel type evoloution of Onix, it has weakness to fire and resistance to grass, whereas Onix is weak to grass.

There are a few new types of cards too. Though they aren't basic energy types, there are two new energy cards, Dark and Steel. They both have effects on pokemon.

When dark energy is attached to pokemon, if its attack does damage, it does 10 extra damage when attacking. But, unless the pokemon you attached it to is either a dark type or a pokemon from the team rocket expansion set then it will take 10 damage after each turn just as if it had been poisoned.

When steel energy is attached to a pokemon, when it is attacked, all damage to it is reduced by 10. But, unless the pokemon you attached it to is a steel type, then its retreat cost increases by 1.

There are also new "baby" pokemon that are prevolved forms of pokemon. But there are also special rules for baby pokemon. Whenever an attack is directed towards a baby pokemon, flip a coin. If tails the attack will fail. Baby pokemon have no weakness, resistance, or retreat cost. They cannot be affected by status changes either.
