Kevin hung up the phone and turned back to the anxious looks of his bandmates. "His parent's still haven't heard a thing from him, neither have any of the kids. Jane's going to call around to the friends she knows of to see if any of them have heard from him." AJ sighed and leaned back in his chair. "Guys, you don't think this is just Nick trying to get attention do you? I mean, he's been pretty moody lately…." Brian turned to him and frowned, "I think we all know it's more than Nick just trying to get attention. He's been gone more than a day. And even for Nick, it's not like him to just vanish without a word to anyone. Especially Aaron. He knows how worried Aaron would get." He turned back to Kevin, "I think it's more than just a stupid stunt on Nick's part. And I think it's time we called someone."
Kevin nodded and picked the phone up again, "Hello Bob, its Kevin again. No, still no word. We're thinking that maybe its time to call the police." He paused as he listened to Nick's distraught father on the other end of the line. "Kidnapped?" he raised his dark eyebrows at the word and looked at the other guys, "No, well, I mean we hadn't thought of that honestly. It doesn't seem like it. I mean, there's been no notification of any kind from anyone. And it's been more than a day since Nick disappeared…" Kevin paced the floor as he listened to Bob Carter, "Yes, ok, we'll stay here and we'll see you in a few hours. No, don't worry about management, I'll call and take care of all that. Okay, bye Bob."
He hung up the phone and sat on the bed. "They're going to call the local police and report Nick as a missing person and then catch the next flight up here." He ran his long fingers through his hair and stood. "I'm going to go back to my room and make some calls." Howie and AJ stood as well and headed for the door, "I think we're gonna get some food," Howie spoke quietly as he looked at Brian still sitting on the foot of Nick's bed, "Bri? How about you come with us. None of us has eaten all day…" Brian shook his head. "You guys go on. I'm just gonna stay here for awhile and look around some more. Maybe we missed something."
The other three nodded and walked out of the room, closing the door quietly and leaving Nick's best friend alone with his thoughts.
Brian stood and turned slowly in a circle, trying to catch something they might have all overlooked earlier in their search for clues to Nick's disappearance. "Ok Frack," his soft southern voice sounding like a thunder crack in the quiet room, "what have you done now. Where the hell are you and why the hell would you do this?" He walked across the room and slowly pulled open the desk drawer again, not moving anything but wondering why Nick had left the things there in the first place. His tired blue eyes trailed over the objects in the drawer. A manila envelope with Nick's handwriting carefully printed on the front, "Give to Jane Carter. Contents: wallet, driver's license, social security card, various credit cards, bank card, debit card, photographs, checkbook."
Brian wandered back into the bathroom and looked at everything set out neatly along the counter. His razor, cologne, shaving cream, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant…What was Nick thinking? Why would he leave all this behind? If he'd been taken against his will, there would have been some kind of fight, right? And even if he couldn't have fought…to leave all this so neat and in order. Brian walked to the balcony and stood outside, worriedly looking out across the city as the sun set behind the towering buildings of New York.
Where are you Nick? Where the hell are you?
