Poetry & Essay

come out from among them
and be ye separate

     into the open field
  i was one tiny seed
borne by a bird on flight
     blown by the wind
     nestled into the womb
  of earth's brown carpet
       nursed by rainfall
    nourished by sunlight.

      after a long parade
      of nights and days
 a towering blade of grass
       stood erect and royal
          amidst the rest
      of the surrounding vegetation
  cultured and manicured by man.

           pregnant with flowers
                 so rare and fair
    man's domesticated hands
            aborted my roots
      tossed me away and far
        and called me a "weed"
