GO-GO'S - "AUTOMATIC"
Topic: New Tab Postings

In 1981 the Go-Go's debuted with the album Beauty and the Beat, ultimately capturing and holding the #1 spot on the Billboard album chart for six straight weeks. The double platinum-selling disc, now considered by many music critics to be a cornerstone album of early 1980's new wave, is known for its upbeat, pure pop hits like "We Got the Beat" and "Our Lips Are Sealed". The darker "Automatic" stands in contrast to those songs, with its minor key melody, repeating lead guitar line, and swampy slide guitar solo creating a hypnotic undertow. The song was released as a single in the UK in February of 1982.

TROOPER - "THE MOMENT THAT IT TAKES"
Topic: New Tab Postings

"The Moment That It Takes" was the last of three singles to be released from Trooper's double-platinum fourth studio album, Thick As Thieves (1978). It was also the second of those three singles to feature keyboardist Frank Ludwig on lead vocals. A Top 20 hit in Canada (peaking at #14), "Moment" is also included on both of Trooper's greatest hits CDs.

FM
Topic: Riff-In-A-Jiff

In the late 1970's, Canada was well represented in the progressive rock field by bands such as Rush, Saga, Klaatu, and FM. Sci-fi themes dominated FM's 1977 debut album Black Noise, as heard on tracks such as the space exploration epic "Aldebaran". Tabbed here is the Intro, which with its delay-laden electric mandolin is in some ways similar to the Intro of the album's opening track (and single) "Phasors On Stun".

STONEBOLT - "I WILL STILL LOVE YOU"
Topic: New Chords Postings

"I Will Still Love You" gave Vancouver's Stonebolt a major hit in the latter half of 1978. The single was drawn from the band's self-titled debut album (pictured). Released in mid-August, the song made a 15 week climb up the RPM 100 chart to peak at #19 on December 2. Success also came Stateside, with the single going Top 30 on Billboard.

Over time the master tapes of Stonebolt's records were misplaced, and the band actually had to re-record their best songs for their 1999 greatest hits compilation Regeneration: The Best Of Stonebolt.

HONEYMOON SUITE
Topic: Riff-In-A-Jiff

Honeymoon Suite's third album, Racing After Midnight (1988), featured a harder-edged, more guitar centered sound than the band's previous albums, as heard on tracks such as "Love Fever". Tabbed here is the Intro.

IDLE EYES - "TOKYO ROSE"
Topic: New Tab Postings

Drawn from their 1985 self-titled debut album, the single "Tokyo Rose" gave Vancouver band Idle Eyes a Top 20 hit in Canada (#16 on the RPM chart). The success of the single brought the band several accolades. Most prominently, it earned them the Juno award for Most Promising New Group in 1985, in a nominee field that included The Arrows, Images In Vogue, The Box and Rational Youth. Idle Eyes also swept the major awards at the 1986 West Coast Music Awards, taking Group Of the Year, best album, best song ("Tokyo Rose"), and best songwriter (Tad Campbell).
