  • My Personal Statement

My name is Travis Hunter and I am 39 years old. I have been married for 18 years to a fantastic woman, Kenetia, and have two children; Renee’ who is 17 and Travis who is 16. We currently live in San Angelo, Texas. I enjoy spending time with my family (what little time is available) I also enjoy cross stitching. It takes a lot of concentration and clears my mind at the end of a long day. I didn’t take the College route directly out of high school, mostly because I couldn’t afford it. Instead I worked as a seasonal firefighter in California for a year and then decided to join the military and have them pay for my college. Good choice since that is where I met my wife.

I have been in the United States Air Force for almost 19 years. I am currently stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo Texas. I have also been stationed at Fairchild AFB, Washington, Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany and did instructor duty for 5 years at Sheppard Air Base, Texas. That was my gateway into education and the route I am taking now.

I am an Aerospace Medical Service Craftsman in the Air Force. Basically I am a medic. Why the military uses such long names I will never know. My current position is Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge (NCOIC) of Education and Training for our Medical Clinic. I oversee/develop all curriculums for the Medical Group. From in processing new personnel, to providing training and teaching courses

Before my arrival to San Angelo, Texas I spent over 5 years teaching new recruits (those just completing basic training) how to be a medical technician. The course was approximately 14 weeks long and can be compared to a very fast paced Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program. My expertise was Emergency Medicine. I ran the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program. This block of instruction consisted of 210 hours where we taught the students all the cognitive and psychomotor skills needed to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician Examinations. I have developed curriculum and have used the Air Force Model of the Instructional System Design (ISD). It was also during this time that I finished two Associate Degrees from the Community College of the Air Force. I also completed my Bachelors Degree in Occupational Education from Wayland Baptist University.

I enjoy developing curriculum and seeing my product being taught to students. I also enjoy teaching. I enjoy watching the light bulb go off in a students head when they get what you are attempting to teach. My experience has been with students 18 and up. I also enjoy the challenge of keeping there attention and finding away to get them the information so they understand.

My goal after finishing up my Masters Degree is to retire from the Air Force and either work as a civilian in one of the military training groups or at the college level, either developing curriculum or teaching, preferably both.
