Prologue
Selene
swept tired hands over Endymion’s
cheek. “If only you could see me
now.” Her gentle words were
uplifted by the wind and her silver hair whipped across her face.
Fierce wind: a bad omen for a goddess.
She took a frightened step backwards and collided with someone.
“Selene?”
A short gasp escaped from Selene’s lips.
Her ‘sister,’ Artemis, appeared with both hands on her hips.
“I though Zeus told you to…”
“Please, Artemis! Sister, I
beg you…” Selene dropped to one knee and began her pleading act.
“Fear not,” Artemis replied, with a smile that was coy, yet sweet and
caring at the same time. She pulled
her best friend up. “My lips are
sealed. Zeus doesn’t rule anymore,
you know. He has left sweet earth.
Helios, your blood-brother is in control now.
He is kinder than Zeus.”
Selene nodded. Zeus and many
other gods and goddesses felt Earth’s time was up.
He had merely gotten bored after his Greek and Roman religion was
demolished. Now people believed the
moon was some rock in space, not a silver chariot ridden by Selene.
With Zeus gone, the magic of
The Goddess of the moon’s heir was obvious.
One of Selene’s and Zeus’ daughters, named Pandeia, was to be renamed
Selene to take over the throne. The
line was to go on forever.
Artemis rested her hands on Selene’s shoulders.
“One day you’ll die. Then
what?”
“Endymion,” Selene muttered. “He
will not be known as a father to these children.
He will be known as a lover of my every daughter.
He is to die and be reborn as himself over and over again.
But he will feel no pain. I
can’t lose him,” Selene felt her time on earth coming to an end.
“I must take to the skies.” She
rose up into the clouds, leaving Artemis with a token she was directed to give
to her daughter. A silver amulet
with a moon, holding a star with a sun rising just behind the glittering
crescent.
