Response To The South African Council of Churches Submission To Parliament Concerning The Marriage Issue

I find it most discouraging that once again our South African Council of Churches (SACC) has once again spoken AGAINST the clear instruction of Scripture. The latest heresy committed by them is their submission, to the Parliament of this country, of a document "explaining" the supposed views of the churches in South Africa regarding the Marriages Act. There is currently (like in many nations) a massive argument about the definition of marriage as well as same-sex marriages. This article is primarily the rebuking of a "Christian" organization by a CHRISTIAN - something allowed in the Scriptures where heresy is preached!

Some quotes (taken from here ):

We are alarmed by the widespread misapprehension that those who oppose equal marriage rights speak on behalf of a monolithic "Christian Church"

 

Christians hold equally diverse views on homosexuality. Today, most churches accept the overwhelming evidence that sexual orientation (as distinct from sexual behaviour) is a component of identity over which individuals exercise little or no conscious choice. Typically, they oppose discrimination against homosexuals. However, this acceptance is sometimes conditional on celibacy. Some Christians have difficulty reconciling such conditionality with an understanding of sexuality as a gift from God that has the potential to strengthen and enrich intimate human relationships.

 

Just as there is not one view on marriage, there is also no single authoritative interpretation of scripture.

 

I refer to my article on sodomy for a fuller discussion of the homosexual debate. But I feel I must repeat a few things.

> God NEVER changes
 

> God told us what marriage is

Gen 2:24  Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

>The above passage has the context of God presenting Eve (A WOMAN = female!!) to Adam (A MALE!).
 

>God thus performed the first marriage ceremony
 

>Jesus Christ (also God) repeated the conditions for marriage :

 

Mat 19:4  And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

Mat 19:5  And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh

Mat 19:6  Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

>Thousands of years after Adam and Eve, Marriage was STILL defined the same way!! It is NOT part of the Jewish ceremonial law done away with when Jesus Christ came to earth (see : The Law )

>In any case the Scriptures (in many passages) also confirm that homosexuality IS A SIN AND HAS A PENALTY, eg:

 

Rom 1:27  And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.

 

>To the SACC I also say: Some well-established doctrines of the faith are based on FEWER passages than those attacked by the pro homosexual lobby. To be consistent, you should do away with these doctrines too, since they have even less support!!

>To look again at the quotes : The "monolithic" church is only OBEYING THE SCRIPTURES when it speaks on theses issues. The social context is irrelevant. Christ spoke very clearly on what HE thought marriage IS (not was). Since He is NEVER wrong and is God anyway, surely His definition is the right one? Also, how much clearer must one get? : ONE MAN + ONE WOMAN is the condition for marriage THROUGHOUT Scripture - even Jesus Christ confirmed it!

In Conclusion:

To close then, one must say that the SACC is in ERROR regarding the interpretation of the passages mentioned as well as their seeming support for the pro homosexual agenda. To any church that is a member of the SACC, I would urge you to reconsider your membership due to this and many other flagrant denials of the Doctrines of the Faith endorsed by the SACC.
