Odin's brothers, Ve and Vili, tried to arbitrate a truce with the Vanir,
enemies of the Aesir, but the Vanir were displeased with Hoenir (Vili)
for being dim-witted and beheaded Mimir, sending his head back to Odin,
the chieftain of the Aesir. Preserving it in a well with magic, Odin
consulted with Mimir's spirit for wisdom for millennia afterward,
eventually sacrificing an eye to it and afterward merging the Aesir and
