TetraKaster: The Awakening
A Game Storyby Jay Blackwood
Amara Masaru, aged 16, was born in to the world of Osidia with unusual markings on his chest. Tribal symbols of which no one could decipher. Growing up in the town of Charvaak, Amara accepted these markings and lived his life as a normal person would. One day, when Amara and his best friend, Ace (Lucia) Martinez, where walking through the fields just outside of town, the sun was suddenly massacred by dark clouds, and lightning illuminated the sky. Amara fell to his knees clutching the spot where the marks lay upon his chest. Lucia shot to the ground after him to see what was wrong. At that instant, Amara stretched out his arms, ripped his shirt, which revealed that the symbols upon his chest were glowing red, and releases some energy from his body. Now surrounded in a red aura, Amara clutches his chest again. Lucia, after being knocked to the floor from the energy surge, watches as her companion collapses 5 feet in front of her...
Two days later, Amara awakens blurry-eyed in his bed. Trying to rub his eyes, he tries to sit up but his body is aching as if he were asleep for decades. "You should rest a while longer", says a familiar voice, "here, take this, it'll help to recover the energy you've lost."
Unable to see the man's face, he takes what is offered to him from the pale hand and returns to his deep slumber...
He awakens once more to find himself looking into the eyes of his oldest friend. There is a silence. Trying to read the look on her face, Amara starts by asking what happened, hoping to get an answer that would explain why he had felt so achy. Lucia replied with an answer that still left his question unanswered: "I don't really know".
After a while his mother enters the room with a look on her face that was uncertain, desperate and joyous all at the same time. She runs over to the bed and wraps her arms around him. Still uninformed of what happened to him he asks her what happened to him. "How should I know? Ace was the only one with you when whatever it was that happened, happened! Are you feeling okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay I suppose" he replies still confused. Turning to Lucia, "So what DID happen?"
Looking at him with slightly spooked eyes she answers, "Your... Symbols... Your chest was... Glowing..." looking scared, "The sky went all dark and then you fell to your knees. I thought you were in pain so I was checking to see if you were okay. Next thing I knew I was on the floor and you were shrouded in this red... Aura!"
"... Then what happened?"
"You collapsed... The sky cleared and I brought you back home."
A couple of days passed and the two of them went about their usual activities. On the way back from the fields, they spot a dragon rider at the western entrance to the town. Curious, they run towards to mysterious rider. As they close in on their destination, they see their parents among the small crowd talking to the Imperial Rider. "So..." inquires Amara's father, Tetsin, "You're looking for a child 'round this area eh? Have any idea what they look like or--"
The mysterious character cut him off. "I seek a child of age between fourteen and nineteen. I was sent by order of King Firis XIV to--"
"Whoa, wait a minute", Lucia's mother jumps in to question the knight, "Why has YOUR king sent you all the way out here for one child? Since when has King Firis been interested in Andrea? Has this child done something to incur the wrath of the King?"
"I know not why I was sent to Andrea other than that I was sent to find this child", the knight pauses. "I know only that this child may appear different than other children. Have any of you seen the child I ask of?"
Before anyone answers Maiyu Kala, a friend of the Masaru family, steps toward the dragon Rider and tells him "I see all people who pass through and around the town of Chavaak and I can tell you that this 'child' you seek has not been anywhere around the area of the town." With a silent sigh the man says his thanks and farewells to the townspeople, places his helmet on his head and flies off over the hills.
"You can not be SERIOUS!!" shouts a slightly enraged emperor. "You're telling me, that one young, measly child could be the downfall of MY Empire?! Preposterous!!"
An old and feeble prophet complies, "My Lord, you must understand that this is no ordinary child. He was born with the touch of the Hura!"
A look of shock sweeps across the emperor's face, and after a slight pause, Emperor Meiser, with a more calm voice, challenges the information just put to him. "The Hura? The Hura-Children are all dead, killed in the Great War of Osidia. How could there be such a child?"
"The Scriptures of The Kings m'lord. In all Scriptures but the Scripture of King Alon, it is written that all of the Hura-Children were killed in the war. Whereas King Alon writes--"
"That few of the Mason's Champions were captured, and some escaped... But if King Alon spoke the truth then there would be many of them, not just one descendant."
"Ah..." says the old man, "but with so few of the Children that escaped and the time that has passed since the Great War, the bloodline would have been watered down"
"... Meaning that if two bloodlines of the Children met in one child, they would have the powers passed through the bloodlines." Meiser sits down gobsmacked. "So you're telling me that this has happened? Where, here?", starting to feel threatened.
The man smiles and laughs silently, "M'Lord, there is no need to panic. The child is from the age fifteen to seventeen. It is likely that he/she doesn't know of their powers... And no, not even on this continent."
Meiser calms down at the news, "Y'know Sargo? I'm glad that I still have you by my side. Without you, I would not be who, or even where, I am today..."
