UP IN SMOKE

8/27/09

Very nearly a disaster, the family of this home located in Hickory Shadow development west Morristown was just settling in after dinner when smoke filled their home. The fire originated in a plastic garbage can that was placed outside near the corner of their garage.

When the fire grew and gained in intensity it melted the siding, rose up and entered into the building in the soffit area. The fire then followed the HIP framing of the roof and continued to the top or RIDGE until it reached the outer wall of the upstairs bedroom where it was finally extinguished by the local fire department.

The fire happened on a Monday and we were on site on that Wednesday. The following pictures illustrate the job task that took place.
BeforeAfter

In Progress

First we started with removing the siding and sheathing from both sides that were affected by the fire. Most of the siding that wasn't damaged we reused on the small side of the building replacing the smoke & fire damaged pieces. The larger area of siding nearest the main part of the home was replaced with new siding.

Next the crew removed the shingles, sheathing & roof framing in the damaged areas.

Next we re-frame the roof framing

After the framing was complete we installed tar paper and covered the project with a large blue tarp. We used the tarp because we had insulated & sheetrocked the interior and wanted to protect our work from the possibility of water damage from rain until the roofing crew had a chance to come out and re-shingle this project.

In the photos below are the finished pictures. Thanks hope you have enjoyed.
