Jay Berwanger’s Acquisition: Berwanger was the first player to be drafted by the National Football League's Philadelphia Eagles in 1936, but he chose not to turn professional and never played in the NFL.

The new team played its first game on November 12, 1933, against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago.

The Eagles in its first regular-season game lost to the New York Giants (56-0) on October 15, 1933.

The Eagles first regular-season came on May 11, 1933 in a 6-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

In 1943, when manpower shortages stemming from World War II made it impossible to fill the roster, the team temporarily merged with the Steelers to form a team known as "the Phil-Pitt Steagles." The Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers posted a 5-4-1 record.

After three consecutive years of second-place finishes in 1944, 1945 and 1946, the Eagles reached the NFL title game for the first time in 1947. In their first playoff appearance, the Eagles bested the Pittsburgh Steelers with 21-0.

The Birds earned a wild card berth in Super Bowl XV with a 20-7 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles became the first wild card team to ever reach the Super Bowl. In their first Super Bowl Appearance, the Eagles were defeated by the Oakland Raiders with a 27-10 loss.

Owner/League Administrator Bert Bell became the first Eagle to be inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1963. He was responsible for creating the NFL amateur draft. Single-handedly, he plotted out league schedules. He died of a heart attack on October 11, 1959 at Philadelphia's Franklin Field.

Swede Hanson became the first Eagles player to Rush 100 Yards in a Game in 1934.

Steve Van Buren became the first Eagles player to become a first 1,000-Yard Rusher.

Wilbert Montgomery, with 6,538 yards holds the record for most Yards Rushing.

Ron Jaworski with 26,963 yards holds the record for most yards passing.

Harold Carmichael with 589 receptions became the career-record holder for the most receptions.

Bobby Walston, with 881 points is the Eagles All-Time Leading Scorer.

Chuck Bednarik made 8 Pro Bowl Appearances, which are still the most by an NFL player.

The first-ever televised pro football game was a game between the Eagles and the Brooklyn Dodgers.

The Eagles participated in the first televised football game ever, against the Brooklyn Dodgers, at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn. The Eagles lost the game by 23-14.
