BMW 2002

The Ultimate Cult Car, the '02 brought BMW into the sports and sedan realm in the 1968 and continued through the '70's in America. Even today some '02s can be seen blowing by boat American cars of the '70's, juts as they did back then... (Thanks Uncle Bob for the info and stories!)

1972 2002 (the Tank)

This is a base model 2002, owned by (Uncle) Bob LaBarca. All 2002s had 2.0 Liter, 4-in-line cylinder engines. The base model put out 113hp (US), and had one Solex carburetor. The original paint color of this '02 was Sahara, but the re-paint of it had a lighter colored Safari to it. Safari was used on E21 3-series cars and early E30s. So the color is now "Sahari". The 'Tank', as we call it, came into Unlce Bob's possesion in October of 1991, after being owned by a mother and then her daughter. June through August of 1994 were spent re-doing the whole car, after the fenders were replaced in 1992. April of 1996 brought an accident with a deer, so most of the work had to be re-done that summer. Many stories have come from the Tank, including the time the dealer didn't attatch the rotated wheels quite hard enough, and it rolled off on thte highway as Uncle Bob drove. More stories will follow....

This is a modified 2002, that's been lowered, has extended wheel flares, sport mirrors and wheels, as well as probable engine modifications.

1972 2002 tii

The tii was a Kugelfischer Mechanical Fuel injected '02. The European tii put out 140hp, and the US spec had 130hp. Both were 8 valve variants on the 2.0 liter 4 cylinder. This is an Inka (Orange) tii, owned by Sean Donnelly. (See his link on my links page). Another variant of the 2002 was the 2002ti. This difference was the addition of 2 Solex Carburetors, making 120hp (it failed to meet US emission standards and was never offically imported). 2002 Turbo 2002 Touring 1972 2002
