"Metro-Hell" is actually a re-tooling of an awful stage band chart named "Metropole" that our high school programed out every year at the spring concert. Our version is a retaliation to the tedious original, whom everyone in the band has a deep personal hatred towards. "Allegheny Traveler" was partially inspired by a cheesy comic book of the same name. The comic, which told the heroic tale of a Pennsylvania colonist who dedicated his life to saving the Allegheny region from natural disasters, was given to Todd (against his will) by a local librarian. Much of the tune, however, was written a year before the comic was acquired, under the working title, "Box of Grapes." "Jumbo King!" was written as a theme song/commercial for a pathetic plastic monkey that Todd gave Germann as a gag Christmas gift. The song's irony is driven home when one realizes that the toy ape is only an inch tall! The lyrics (with the exception of the "crotch" line) are simply the words printed on the toy's hyped-up packaging. "Kissyfur's Last Day on Earth" is about a mythical predicament, where the loveable cartoon bear Kissyfur (think back to the 80s) gets caught up in an "accidental rape" situation, and attempts to flee the crime scene. The "grey Aries K-car" is a referrence to the car that Kauffman drove at the time the song was written, and although the details of Kissyfur's demise are unclear, it is certain that Officer Frank Poncerello was involved in the arrest. The first Corny Poop album was recorded soley on a 1970s-era reverb box that Chirdon "borrowed" from a friend. The inability to properly track the instruments resulted in major tape generation losses, a problem that wouldn't be fixed until Brett bought a 4-track a few years later. The three Christmas tracks on that album were originally recorded for the soundtrack to A Christmas Carol (a short film starring Germann as Mr. Scrooge). The tunes were added to the album as afterthoughts, for fear they might not see the light of day (the film has yet to be completed 7 years later!). "Dr. Disco" was supposed to be the first song that Corny Poop ever recorded (with full-band orchestration), but it sat in the back of the book for years until it was rediscovered and finally recorded for Your Favorite Album. The main theme was composed by Jack Elliot, who wrote numerous TV theme songs, including "Barney Miller" and "Night Court." "The First Bite of Salad" was recorded on Independence Day, 1999, ironically a few short hours after Todd got drunk and threw up a chicken salad. You all know CP's version of "CHiPs" from the Better Than You (1997) album, but did you know that an earlier, much faster version was recorded? Indeed, it was originally arranged for the In Stereo (1996) album, and was the very last song to be recorded for those sessions. This high-speed version featured a bizarre personnel, with Germann, Todd, and Chirdon playing trumpet, and the trombone duties being handled by Brett (!) and session musician Betsy Eicher. Unfortunately, the master tape of this rare version has been misplaced and remains unissued (and unheard) to this day. |
