From Ninety Six, South Carolina in Greenwood County, our ROOTS begin. The Smith Lineage begins with MARY GRAHAM. Mary Graham was the daughter of Charles Graham and Viney (Carter) Graham. The "Graham's" had three children: Prince, Joseph, and MARY.

Mary Graham Smith's husband, Joseph Smith, was born in South Carolina and so were both of his parents; however, we have not been able to trace his roots. We do know that one of his parents was white. Joseph could have passed for white, if he had chose. My aunt tells stories of store owners saying: "Joe, you can come in but those "N" kids cannot come in." Joe was proud of his children. Joe and his wife Mary remained married and together until their deaths. Five gnerations of "Joseph Smith's" tells of his legacy.

DAISY DOLLIE (Kelly) SMITH'S LINEAGE

Daisy Dollie Kelly was born May, 1893 in Georgia to Fannie (Ray) Kelly and Mr. Kelly who died before Daisy was five. Prior to 1910 Daisy's mother Fannie (Ray)Kelly-Mitchell also passes. By 1910 Henry Ray (Fannie Ray-Kelly's twin brother) provides a home for Daisy and her siblings. Daisy's oldest sister, Gertrude, takes on a motherly role.

Also in 1910, Daisy marries Irvin Smith. The Smith's migrated to Pennsylvania where they raised their eight children (adult photo above). Gertrude (Daisy's oldest sister) also migrated to Pennsylvania and provided support to Daisy and Irvin with the raising of their children.

Fannie is Daisy Dollie's mother

Without the love and support of Henry Ray and Gertrude (Kelly) Flint, the Kelly or Mitchell family may not have been able to stay together. We honor all of our ancesters.
