Born Sunday, June 23, 1986, 3:09AM, 6 lbs. 12.5 ozs., 19" tall,
Newton Memorial Hospital, Newton, New Jersey.
You are my last born: "The Baby",
and the first male child born in twenty years -
on your maternal and paternal family tree.
To be sure, your arrival and existence have certainly been a novelty!

You caught your first fish at the ripe old age of three,
smiled, and proudly went to show it off.
On the way (quite accidently), you lost grip of your pole,
slipped, and proceeded to step on it.
No quitter, you immediately went for another.
That's my son!

Your favorite past-times have ranged from collecting frogs
(remember the one you'd left in the pocket of
your pants that I washed/dried?);
all types of martial arts; swords; "Play Station"; building tree houses;
"Dragon Ball Z" cartoons galore; sports; anything on TV;
your endless love of drawing; and most recently, girls. Hmmm...
We have seen you go from a little boy to a young man -
overnight and right before our very eyes!

You have driven me insane with your endless supply of jokes,
a bedroom I would have once had condemned,
and report cards no mother should have to receive.

You have, also, brought me unmeasureable happiness and joy.
At times, you have made me stop and evaluate where I was going,
gave me the strength to continue the struggle of daily life,
and put the smile back on my face when I thought it no longer existed.

I've often thought that I've gotten the better end of the deal -
"Circle of Life" (From the Walt Disney movie: “The Lion King”)
From the day we arrive on the planet
Some say eat or be eaten
(Chorus)
In the Circle of Life
Some of us fall by the wayside
There's far too much to take in here
(Chorus)
In the Circle of Life
for which I am eternally grateful.
I have found the mother/son bond to be one of "full-circle":
Each taking turns giving, each taking turns taking,
yet neither ever feeling slighted.
For this reason, this song reminds me of you.
Music by: Elton John with Lyrics by: Tim Rice
And blinking, step into the sun
There's more to be seen than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done
Some say live and let live
But all are agreed as they join the stampede
You should never take more than you give
It's the wheel of fortune
It's the leap of faith
It's the band of hope
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle, the Circle of Life
And some of us soar to the stars
And some of us sail through our troubles
And some have to live with the scars
More to find than can ever be found
But the sun rolling high
Through the sapphire sky
Keeps the great and small on the endless round
It's the wheel of fortune
It's the leap of faith
It's the band of hope
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle, the Circle of Life
You always were - and will always continue to be -
My Little Prince in shining armour.
With my heart and soul, I love you, Steven.
Thank you for everything.
Love always,
Mom
