"Alexia I have good and bad news, well it's not that bad," the doctor said walking into the small examining room, carrying her chart. Brian looked uneasily at Alexia who was sitting on the examination table.
"Don't worry, Brian," Alexia tried to give Brian a reassuring smile, but it didn't work.
His mind was racing. 'What the hell does he mean by not that bad, is she better or is she worse? Oh, God!' he thought to himself as he looked at her with out blinking. Alexia, on the other hand, looked very calm. Her legs were swinging lightly back and forth. She saw they way Brian was looking at her, and it made her feel bad. 'Why did I tell him? This is only going to hurt him,' she thought to herself. She reached out for Brian's hand and smiled. This time he did smile back.
"Well, your chart says that you are in perfect health but that does not mean you can do everything you want," the doctor said looking at Alexia dead in the eye. "You need to get some rest, and continue eating right and taking your pills, and exercise, remember we don't want you to start believing you can do what ever you want if you have the pill."
"I know, so what is the not that bad news?" Alexia said taking a deep breath.
"Well, before we could not determine if your immune system would work on its own and if you could live a normal life. We have determined that for a period of five years your immune system will work correctly," he said looking at the growing smile on Alexia's face.
"So I don't have to worry for five years?" Alexia said as she smiled widely.
"Yeah, but after that we have no idea what will happen," the doctor said as he ran his hand through his slightly curly hair.
"So what is the good news?" Alexia said smiling widely biting her lower lip.
"Well, we are this close to finding a cure," he said as he closed her chart.
"What!" Alexia belched out almost falling of the table.
"Careful now, Al," Brian said as he jumped out of the chair.
"Relax, Brian," she said laughing lightly.
"It's good to see you smile," Brian said as he looked at Alexia walking next to him through the automatic doors of the hospital. Alexia looked at him and shook her head laughing lightly.
"Mr. Littrell are you flirting with me?" Alexia said joking.
"Depends," he said as he raised his left eyebrow.
"On?" Alexia asked skeptically.
"Well, if me telling you that it is better to see you smiling means that I am secretly seducing my best friend's girl, then I am guilty as charged," he smiled slyly.
"This is going to be one hell of a ride," Alexia laughed referring to her working with them.
Brian smiled as he saw Alexia take out the keys of her silver BMW. As soon as they were out of her bag he crept slowly and snatched them away from her running towards the car.
"Oh, no you don't." Alexia ran toward Brian who was already opening the driver's side door. "What?" Brian asked looking up at her with his big beautiful blue eyes.
Alexia bit her lower lip and took a deep breath. 'OK keep it together, alexia' she thought to herself.
"No one drive my car but me." Alexia crossed her arms across her chest and extended one of them so Brian could put the keys in her hand.
"Oh, come on" Brian begged.
"If you think for just one second that those sad puppy eyes are going to work on me, then think again, Mr." Taking the keys as she said this.
"And what if I get on my knees and beg you. Please."
Alexia turned around to find Brian on his knees on the dirty paved floor begging.
"Sorry, that doesn't work either," she said as she took off her black sweater, tying it around her waist, revealing a sky blue tee shirt. She opened the door and threw her purse in.
"And what if I..." he said as heup and walked towards her, "tickle you to death!" he said as he started, making her fall to the ground.
"No, no, Brian, please, please stop."
"The keys or nothing," he said as he continued tickling her.
"No, please, stop," Alexia laughed, trying to make him stop. She finally tackled him and sat on his stomach. She leaned down, making Brian a little nervous.
"I always win," she whispered between light giggles in his ear before she got up.
'God, she is perfect,' Brian thought to himself as he stood up brushing the dust off his jeans. 'Nick is one lucky guy,' he smiled as he walked to the passenger's door.
"So what movie do we get?" Alexia asked as they walked through the empty video store side by side.
"Well, how about, this one?" Brian took the first movie with her face on the cover.
"Hahaha very funny, I don't think so," she said putting it back.
"I love that movie," Brian said trying to get it back.
"'For the Girl That Has Everything'? Yeah right, it's a teen movie and I think you are just a little too old for that," she smirked.
" A movie in which you follow your dreams and go against everyone, 'specially your own popularity. Just because you play a senior in high school does not make the movie coke drinking, pimpled face boys who think they rule the planet," he said taking the movie and putting it under his arm. "Besides there is something about a girl and torn jeans," he continued as he notices the bottom parts of Alexia's faded jeans were cut.
"Yeah right, you probably go for the big boobs, big hair, short skirt, tight shirt and no brain girls," Alexia said walking down the suspense aisle.
"Actually I don't care much about the package, but what comes inside," he said as he walked behind her leaning on her shoulder.
"And that would be?" Alexia tilted her head lightly as she picked up a movie box.
"Smart, sense of humor, determined, has goals and dreams, wants to achieve them, giving, open, trustworthy, spontaneous, and likes to listen."
"That's all?" Alexia looked at him and rolled her eyes. "If you ever find her, please let me meet her," she said jokingly.
"Oh and killer legs wouldn't be bad either," he smiled slyly.
"I knew it" Alexia belched out as she walked to the next aisle.
"What?" Brian asked as he turned to see her walk away.
"That every guy is just like the other, sexist and sex addicted," she said as she kneeled down.
"It was a joke," Brian said leaning on the shelves dividing the isle he was in and the one Alexia was in. Alexia jumped up with a movie in her hand
"I love this movie," she said as Brian read the title, "'School Ties', I love this movie, too," he smiled back.
'What am I doing?' Alexia thought to herself. Nnah, I've seen it too many times," she said as she put it back. 'God I am stupid? Why don't I just rent the biography of Matt Damon?' she said to herself. "OK lets get...this one."
"Casablanca?" Brian rolled his eyes.
"And Star Wars," Alexia lifted her other hand.
"Now we are talking," he said as he took the movie in his hand.
"Oh by the way I am feeling a little nutty and lets make it a night, how about Ace Ventura?" she said as he walked away.
"God I love this girl," he said out loud making Alexia laugh.
"You know that this is my favorite movie well of coarse after 'A Toast to Love' and 'Not this Time'," he said as he finally caught up with her at the counter.
"Brian, could you do me a favor and stop reciting all of my movies?" Alexia grabbed his shirt pulling him near.
"Yes, sir!" he said as he saluted her. "That is ma'am to you," she smiled back.
At the counter the young boy almost fainted at the site of Alexia. "Are,... are...you her?" he said pointing to a large poster behind him with the side of her face with big bold letters 'Restless Heart'. Alexia laughed lightly to see that soon her semi-new movie would be coming out.
"God I filmed that about two years ago," Alexia said to Brian who was biting his lip so he would not laugh.
"Yes, that is me," Alexia smiled back to the young boy that must have been about seventeen.
As they left the store, Alexia looked at Brian. "What?" he asked as he saw the weird expression on her face.
"We need to get some food fast?" she said as she rubbed her stomach.
"You are definitely one of a kind" Brian laughed as he got into the passenger side.
