"Hello, everyone and welcome to Wednesday's edition of TRL. I'm Carson Daly, and we are going to be counting down your top ten favorite videos based on your email and phone requests, plus we have special news about the Backstreet Boys. Later, we're going to check in with Dave Holmes down in Times Square, but now, let's get on with the show. Our number ten video today comes from..."
Leighanne muted the television and glanced over at Brian. Then she looked down at the ring on her finger.
"Brian, I'm sorry," she murmured.
"Sorry? For what?!" Brian exclaimed.
"For putting you through this. You guys have a lot of young fans that won't be able to handle this. What if you guys lose fans?"
"I hope we do if all they care about is who we're with. If we change, but our music doesn't, then why should it matter?"
"Remember when you had to lie about having a girlfriend?"
"Yeah, but it wasn't right. I'm proud to have you as my girlfriend, and in a short time, my wife. I don't want to hide it, and that is what I think is the right thing to do."
"But-"
"Shh, don't worry about this right now," Brian said, then he leaned over and kissed her. "Baby, I love you more than any of our fans or fame our money or anything. I'd rather have you as my wife and be flipping burgers at some fast food place than lose you and have all the fame in the world."
"I love you, too. You're so sweet," she replied lovingly. She rested her head on his shoulder. "Everything about you is so....perfect!"
She snuggled against him and he put his arm around her shoulder and gently rubbed her back. He kissed her cheek, and then they went back to watching the show.
John Norris finally came out to announce the news less than ten minutes from the end of the show.
"Before we get to the number one video, which comes from, of course, the Backstreet Boys, we have John Norris with some news about them," Carson announced.
"Yes, I do. Actually bad news for BSB fans," John replied, making Brian cringe in anticipation of what was coming and everyone's reaction.
"At their recent concert in Albany, New York," he continued, "I sat down with the guys indivually and in a group interview. Surprisingly, the subject of marriage came up! Kevin Richardson and cousin Brian Littrell are actually both engaged."
They cut to clips of the interview. Leighanne put her arm across his shoulder, trying to comfort him. He hunched over and hung his head as the studio audience changed its atmosphere to a sad one. The camera panned across the crowd and Brian saw a teenage boy hugging a young girl who appeared to be crying. He snatched the remote control away from Leighanne and clicked off the TV.
"Honey, do you think I did the right thing?" Brian asked.
"Whatever feels good in your heart," Leighanne replied, touching his chest, "is the right thing to do."
"You're right! And, my heart feels really good sitting next to the most beautiful girl in the world. You're the best," he said.
"Just remember, though, life is a road that has its ups and downs. We have to get through the bumps to get to the smooth part."
"This is going to be one long journey from today to the day of our wedding!"
"In the end, it will be worth it. I promise you, Brian."
