Chapter Three

Hey, Hey We're the Monkees!

The next day the guys started filming down the beach. The four of us girls went down to watch. It was a closed set, so there were only about ten other girls and a couple guys waiting to catch a glimpse of the new band. Other than those few people, there weren’t too many fans around. Most people hadn’t heard anything about them yet.

Mike gave the guards our names so that we could get in to see them. We settled in on the bleachers and watched the guys in action. The show was very funny. We had never seen anything like it before.

During their break I turned to Jill. “So, Jill, did you and Micky actually do ‘it’ last night?”

“A true lady never kisses and tells.” Was all she said.

Jamie spoke up, “And you would be saying that you are a true lady?” She laughed.

“Of course!” Jill replied. “Most of the time.”

When we decided we wouldn’t get anything juicy out of her, we went on to Shawna who was unusually quiet that day.

“What movie did you and Peter watch last night?” Jamie asked her.

“The Wizard of Oz.” She answered.

Jill laughed.

“What’s so funny?” Shawna asked.

“I just think it is strange that you two would watch that movie. It’s kind of childish don’t you think?” Asked Jill.

“Well, you know we’re both kids at heart.” Was Shawna’s reply.

The boy’s break was just ending then, and they returned to the set. This time a girl was with them. Jamie glared at her every time she and Davy interacted. “He better be just acting!” She would say.

“I’m sure he is,” I answered her. “If he isn’t he’s going to get a beating.”

“I wonder why Davy is the one all the girls swoon over. I mean you don’t see the other three with any girls.” I commented.

“That’s cause Davy’s the cutest.” Jamie explained.

“Uh-uh!” We each protested.

“Mike is!” I said.

“Peter is!” Shawna spoke up.

“Micky is!” Jill burst out.

“I guess they all are in their own way, but somebody must have decided to make Davy the cutest.” Jamie smiled with pride as she said it.

“I guess so,” we agreed.

After shooting the show, we went to our favorite hang out, Steve’s Place. We selected a booth, because they had jukeboxes.

“Oo-oo-oo!” Jill said excitedly. “I want to play a song. Micky, give me a dime.” He delved into his pockets and pulled out a nice shiny dime. “Here you go, luv.” We all continued talking till “Wild Thing” began blaring loudly in our ears. We all turned to look at her, eyebrows raised. “What?” she said defensively. “I only wanted Micky to know how I feel about him.”

“Ooo, kinky!” he winked at her. “I like it.”

Jill smiled, while Jamie looked discusted. “Oh, get a room!” she said.

“Good idea,” she said, and grabbed Micky’s hand. With that they ran out of the restaurant.

We all raised our eyebrows. Davy looked equally discusted. “Those two. I don’t know what we’re going to do with them. Someday they’ll learn their lesson.”

“Yeah, when they get a disease!” Mike joked and we laughed.

After eating our meal, we each went our separate ways.

Mike told me he had a surprise for me waiting in his appartment. “Close your eyes.” He instructed.

When we got inside, he went and got something. I heard a lot of rustling. “Can I open my eyes yet?” I whined.

“Not yet - okay, you can open them.”

I opened my eyes, and on the floor sat the cutest light brown Cocker Spaniel puppy I had ever seen. “Her name is Whitney.” Mike told me.

“Oh Mike, I love her! Cocker Spaniel’s are my favorite! I've always wanted a dog.” I said as I gave him a big hug, and then turned to pet Whitney.

She put her puppy paws on my knee, and lifted her head up to lick my hand. “Isn’t she precious?”

“I’m glad you like her.” Mike beamed. I put the puppy on the floor, and got up. I smiled at Mike and gave him a big kiss.

“I love you.” I whispered in his ear.

“I love you, too.”

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Jill and Micky were curled up on his couch watching TV. It was between shows, and Micky was flipping through to see if anything good was on. He stopped at “Mr. Ed” when Jill squealed and asked if she could watch it.

“Of course, anything for you my pet.” He answered.

Jill smiled and turned her attention to the television. Mr. Ed had on a pair of red glasses and was reading a book. Jill and Micky giggled.

Jamie and Davy were taking a long walk along the beach as they usually did, and pondered deep things. Actually Jamie was the only one doing the pondering, most of that was over Davy’s head. Davy had a one track mind. When she spoke of the meaning of life, he kissed her. When she asked what he wanted to do with his life, he said “stare into your eyes.” But, Jamie didn’t mind because that was Davy and she loved him.

During this time, Shawna and Peter were making music of their own back at Shawna’s place. Shawna was playing her grand piano, and Peter joined in with his acoustic guitar. They made quite the noise. Peter sounded all right, and Shawna’s piano playing superb, but when they started singing, man! Shawna was extremely off key. But, Peter didn’t mind, because he cared about Shawna like he had never cared about a woman before. The two were like two peas in a pod. They complimented each other well.

The next day, we were all back at the studio. Jill and I were sitting, chattering away, and Shawna was off trying to convince the director to let her sing a star solo spot. Jamie sat next to us in silence, waiting for the show to begin filming. Finally the show started, plot line, once again being Davy’s love life. As the new “damsel in distresses” walked on the scene, hand in hand with Davy, I glanced at Jamie. She was clearly a little peeved. But then, when Davy took her into his arms and began kissing her, Jamie stood up. I grabbed her arm.

“Jamie! Relax. They’re only acting.”

“That’s not acting, just look at them go at it.” I looked at the two on the set. I thought that perhaps Jamie had just a little jealousy complex. She looked at them again, eyes bugging out of her head, mouth agape, steam rising from the top of her head.

“Maybe you’d better go back and cool off,” I suggested. She picked up her handbag, and hastily left, without saying a word.

The scene ended, and I remained standing there I was as Mike came down to give me a hug and a kiss. “I missed you,” he said.

“I missed you too. Jamie just stormed out of here. I don’t think she can take all of these ‘Davy in love’ episodes.”

Just then, Shawna came running out from backstage. I braced myself, expecting to hear her complain about being rejected by the director, but she surprised me with a different story.

“You’ll never guess what I just saw,” she said.

“What?!?” Mike and I gasped.

“Davy and Jamie going at it in the janitor’s closet!”

“What?” Mike exclaimed, while I burst out with “And what were you doing in the janitor’s closet?”

“Trying to free it up for me and Peter, but that’s beside the point.”

“They were ‘going at it’?” Mike repeated his amazement.

“Well, not ‘going at it’ you know as in like ‘going at it.' But they were ‘going at it.’”

“Shawna, you’re speaking in riddles. Parle anglais.” I commanded.

“Well, they were kissing rather... you know, heavily. There’s no other way to put it. They were ‘going at it.’

“I would have never expected it of her.” I said in disbelief. “I didn’t think she was the type.”

“Yeah,” commented Mike. “And I thought she was mad at Davy anyway.”

“Apparently not anymore. They were clearly ‘going at it.’” Shawna spoke up.

In the broom closet, Jamie and Davy had just finished ‘going at it.’ “I’m sorry Jamie,” Davy started out. “But, you have to realize that it is just acting. I have no feelings for these girls. I only care about you. You’re my girlfriend.”

“Really?” Jamie asked smiling, “I’m you’re girlfriend?”

“Yes.” Said Davy. He pulled out a ring from his pocket. This way, you will always know you belong to me. It wasn’t exactly an engagement ring, sort of like a going steady ring. It was 14 K gold, with a peridot solitare. Jamie’s birthstone.

“Oh thank you Davy! I love it.” Jamie grinned. “I’m sorry I got so jealous. I’ll try not to be like that in the future.”

“It’s okay luv, all is forgiven.” Davy said as he led her out of the closet.
