Something To Live For
by Jenny Dancel

Standard Disclaimer: The characters Methos/Adam Pierson, Amanda, Joe Dawson, Duncan MacLeod, Nick Wolfe, and Myers all belong to Davis/Panzer, Rysher and Gaumont. I don't own them, just borrowed them for the fun of it, received no money for this. The poem is from Emily Dickenson, and also no infringement intended.

This is my first ever posting of anything, so if there is any criticism, I am willing to learn from my mistakes, just won't learn from flames. I could not use betas so please excuse my mistakes, I can't spell for the life of me, and grammar? What's that?

Thanks to Amand-r for letting me join the wheel, and for encouraging me on the way. Also thanks to Farquar for the poem, it was really inspiring.

O.k. to post where the Wheel goes usually and to Seventh-Dimension Archive.

This is a very sentimental piece, because for my first attempt, I wanted to write about friendship, which is what is the most important thing in my book. So here goes, have fun!

My Life Closed Twice Before its close.

My life closed twice before its close;
It yet remains to see
If Immortality unveil
A third event to me,

So huge so hopeless to conceive
As the that twice befell.
Parting is all we know of Heaven
And all we need of hell.

Emily Dickenson.

Methos was restless, his soul wanted to live so badly, but his fears were so strong that he felt that he could not move. MacLeod was no
were to be found, and Amanda had bleached her hair and had gotten herself involved with an ex-cop. Joe Dawson had also disappeared, probably trying to find the Highlander. Strange how use to the Boy Scout the Ancient had become. There even was some safety if not pure inspiration to just live life to the fullest being around the
Highlander. Methos knew that if he had not involved himself with the Highlander that even Alexa would not have been able to pull him out of his box of safety. Now he was paralyzed with fear for his life, for his relationships and most of all for the clan. The phone rang, Methos
automatically picked up the phone, wishing that he had not.

"Methos", Amanda's sexy voice could be heard over the line," Are you alright"?

"Why would I not be"?

"Because last time I saw any of you we had just come from a fight with O'Rourke, and now Joe is telling me that Duncan is missing", Amanda
really could not keep her fear out of her voice.

"I know" Methos was unable to keep the fear out of his voice either.

"Parting is all we know of heaven, and all we need of hell".

"If Immortality unveiled a third event to me", Amanda began, "I really hope that event would be why we have to live with death so much."

"And what would be the first two events"? Methos asked with a chuckle in his voice.

"First me discovering that I was immortal and second living my life over the centuries".

"Ah Amanda I have missed you," Methos sighed.

"Are you getting sentimental in your old age"?

"Yes, the Highlander does that to you".

"Why did you lose track of him"?

"I went to London for a while so that I could finish my dissertation on Ancient Greece, and when I came back to Paris MacLeod had left the
country".

"Did you tell him where you were going"?

"Yes I did for once".

"Something is wrong Methos".

Methos did not answer, she was probably right, and this escalated his fears even more, making it difficult to breathe.

"Methos why don't you come over to my place and have dinner with me".

"I don't know Amanda".

"Come on Methos, I live on Holy Ground".

"O.k. I will come right over".

Methos took a quick shower and put on his usual jeans and sweater outfit. On his way out of the door he picked up his trench coat and sword and headed out towards his Range Rover.

At Amanda's place, Methos was greeted by a non-descipt man, however Methos, could tell that there was more to him.

"Hi my name is Myers", the man greeted Methos.

"Adam Pierson" Methos shook Myers hand.

"Adam darling" Amanda came in purring out his name in her usual manner. Methos was just happy that she called him Adam instead of his real
name, he grinned back and decided to let her have her games today. She led him into the living room, where there was another man who looked fit and dangerous. However, between this new man and Myers, Methos surmised that Myers was the one to watch out for.

"Adam this is Nick" Amanda told Methos.

"Hello Nick, a pleasure".

"Yes nice to meet you", said Nick with a glint in his eyes.

"This man knows about immortality", Methos thought to himself.

"What business are you in Adam?" Myers asked Methos.

"I just received my Ph.D. in Ancient Languages," replied Methos.

"I am sure that was just a review for you," said Nick with a smile.

"Oh I don't know, relatively speaking I have not been around that long." Methos replied a little bit uneasy, what was this guy's angle?

"Who has?" asked Myers innocently.

"O I don't know," Nick said with a mischevious grin, "someone who can't die?"

"What is this about you and Amanda, and this obsession with immortality?" Myers asked irretated, "can you believe that Amanda was
trying to explain away why she was in a 100 year old photograph, by telling me that she is 1200 years old?" Myers asked Methos.

"What an imagination," Methos drawled, "Amanda can come up with the best tall tells ever".

"So how long have you known Amanda?" Nick asked.

"Well let's see it is June 21?" Methos mused, "about 200 years, she tried to pick my pocket back in the States."

"Give it up guys, it is no longer funny." Myers rolled his eyes,

"Amanda is dinner ready?"

"Yes gentleman please sit down at the table".

The meal was delicious. Amanda had ordered stuffed chicken with rice pilaf and baby carrots from the kitchen. There was no more talk of
immortality, much to Myers relief and Methos amusement, because Nick was still trying to find out the ancients age, through round about remarks
that went over Myers' head.

As they were finishing up the desert, the phone rang. Nick went to pick up the phone. Methos' attention was caught when he heard Nick say Joe's name.

"Amanda it is Dawson," said Nick.

Amanda went over to where Nick was and took the receiver. Methos could not make out what she was saying, but he could see that she was
worried.

"Adam," Amanda said, the fear from their conversation earlier was back into her voice, "Joe wants to talk to you."

Methos took the receiver from Amanda and said hello to Joe.

"Adam,"Joe began," Mac is in trouble."

"Where is he?", Methos said with steel in his voice.

"An immortal by the name of Richard Jansen has him in Los Angeles," Joe informed him.

"Do you know why?" Methos asked.

"Yes, he found out about you" Joe said, "He plans to kill him as soon as he senses you, but he is telling me he will kill him if you don't
show up".

"How do you know that he will kill him if he senses me?"

"One of Jansen's men is a Watcher," Joe said with a chuckle void of humor.

Methos could feel his eternal conflict, on one hand he wanted to revert back to his old self and just mourn the Highlander's death, but one the other hand, he felt alive. Methos would risk his life for a friend and live or die, or he would keep physically alive but dead in every other way. That was hell, and Methos wanted to live like he was among the living, so he made his decision.

"O.k. Joe I will be in L.A. tomorrow". Methos assured the Watcher.

"No meet me in Seacover." I think he is staking out the Airport.

"All right, I will see you there," agreed Methos.
"Myers, I would like to hire your agency...

End.
