Old Flyers News

The Flyers re-signed Karl Dykhuis to a 3-year contract.

John LeClair visited a back specialist in LA in late August but insists his back will be ok for training camp.

The Flyers re-signed Mikael Renberg and Sandy McCarthy to one-year contracts.

The Flyers re-signed Neil Little and two minor leaguers to contracts.

The Flyers re-signed Keith Jones to a 3-year contract, citing his impact on the team as a major reason.

The Flyers fired assistant general manager John Blackwell and replaced him with Paul Holmgren.

The Flyers put G Ron Hextall on waivers. :-( If he is not picked up by another team, however, Bob Clarke plans on giving him a job with the Flyers. How does head coach sound???

Eric Lindros finally signed his 1-yr handshake deal worth $8.5 mill and incentives.

The Flyers lost winger Jody Hull to the expansion draft. :-(

The 1st round pick was Maxim Ouellet, a goalie. Too bad they couldn't have gotten a higher pick. There was a lot of talent in the first 10.

The Flyers signed Mark Recchi to a 5-year deal. Terms were not disclosed. That's one.

Lindros was released from the hospital Monday afternoon, after 11 days away from home, he's back and resting, and doing fine. Looks bright.

BigE finally returned to Philly only to find out that he'll be spending a few more days in the hospital. There's still more blood in his chest. At least he's in the city. He held a press conference in Nashville this morning and was obviously weak and skinnier. Get Well Soon!

Eric Lindros and Mark Recchi are out indefinitely, John LeClair will likely miss a few more games. Lindros suffered a *gasp* collapsed lung in Thursday's game. No wonder the line was lost. This is a serious injury, one that could have cost him his life. *sob* Get well soon Eric! Mark Recchi is feeling the effects of one thing or another, either his concussion or something else. Let's hope it's not serious. LeClair has been playing with a bad back and he's shown it. Finally he'll sit again. They're now the Broad Street Bruised-Ups.

Eric Desjardins avoided free agency when he signed a 4-year extension in the ballpark worth of $16million. I wouldn't complain.

Eric Lindros was suspended for what you'd think was a knife wielding rampage if you'd talk to Rangers GM Neil Smith. He had an excellent quote, if I can get it I'll post it on my quotes page. He high sticked Petr Nedved and cut him, he's suspended without pay for 2 games, costing him about $86,000. ouch.

The Flyers acquired Steve Duchesne from the Kings for Dave Babych. They also acquired LW Craig Berube from the Caps. More and more notorious. These men are both former Flyers.

The Flyers acquired F Sandy McCarthy and F Mikael Andersson from their favorite traders the Lightning for Colin Forbes. Still not Chris Chelios, but looks good.

Coach Roger Nielson was fined $10,000 and suspended for 2 games after throwing Mark Recchi's stick on to the ice to display his protest after a lousy call by referee Bill McCreary. LET'S WAKE UP NOW!

The Flyers acquired RW Mark Recchi!!! from Montreal for Dainius Zubrus. Another Bob Clarke contradiction. He's said earlier that he didn't want to trade Zubbey. Well I think this trade'll be great for both teams. Recchi is one of the best right wingers ever to play for the Flyers. All my favorite players are back. woo-hoo.

The Flyers acquired D Adam Burt for useless Andrei Kovalenko.

Lindros met with a cancer patient he read about in a newspaper after the Boston game on Feb. 6. Seems BigE contacted the boy through the public relations department. The boy idolizes Lindros. What a nice thing.

The ESPY's were held Feb. 15. Lindros was beaten out by Hasek for hockey player of the year. Big surprise.

I attended the Flyers Wives' Fight For Lives Carnival on Sunday! It was great. I met a lot of players and got my pic taken with Renny. Woo-hoo! They raised over $1.275 million this year.

The All-Star weekend was a class act, including one from Lindros. When Yzerman couldn't play, he was appointed to start. He went to the Powers that be and asked them to start Wayne Gretzky instead. What a nice thing to do. Shows ultimate respect and selflessness. Way to go Eric.

The Flyers acquired winger Andrei Kovalenko on January 29 in a three way trade with Edmonton and Tampa, sending bratty Alexandre Daigle to Tampa. Gee, Alex, is that really an improvement? Your team lost 10-1 to the Caps! Kovalenko, on the other hand, is known to party a lot and got himself in trouble in Edmonton that way. Let's hope he straightens out!

Eric Lindros, rightfully so, was not suspended for the phantom slash call. I think Dave Jackson needs to go to the eye doctor.

THE FLYERS HAVE RE-ACQUIRED MIKAEL RENBERG and acquired C Daymond Langkow from the Lightning for Chris Gratton and Mike Sillinger. I like Silly but sorry...I love Rennie!!! This news must be exciting to Lindros and LeClair, and of course Rennie. But who's gonna play RW for the Dynamic Duo? My choice: Stay with Jonesy. He's fine. Rennie can be an asset elsewhere. He's awesome.

Lindros was not suspended for his immature action against Jay McKee, likely because there was no contact; he was, however, fined $1,000.

Here's a bit of info you wouldn't know if you hadn't surfed here...Eric Lindros made personal history Sunday night when he completed his first full November as a professional. E had missed games in each of his first six seasons, suffering a knee injury in his first two, a lockout in his third, another knee bruise in his fourth, a groin injury in his 5th, and last year...remember that dumb bruised rib?

The Flyers acquired winger Roman Vopat from Chicago for Mike Maneluk. The experiment ends. It will be Vopat's 4th team this year, with brief stints in LA, Colorado and the Hawks.

The Flyers acquired winger Keith Jones from the 'Lanche for Shjon Podein. Goodbye to a popular Flyer. Hopefully this trade will right the ship.

Dan Kordic has been sent to the Phantoms.

The Flyers traded Right Wing Trent Klatt to Vancouver. *SAD*

Kjell Samuelsson signed with Tampa. I thought he retired!!!

The Flyers acquired forward Valeri Zelepukin from the Edmonton Oilers for enforcer Daniel Lacroix. Pooky can serve as Dimitri Tertyshny's translator. The 21-year-old rookie speaks little English.
