December 31, 1999-Greensboro, NC - One word-Awesome!! Being at this New Years celebration with Athenaeum was truly the best way that I could ever have thought about bringing in the year 2000!! Not only did they play every one of my old favorites off of Radiance, they played some of their new tunes which totally blew me away. This was my fifth time seeing them and they never let me down!!!! As the crowded cheered to bring in the New Year, Mark, Nic, and Alex came back on the stage with Evan Olson and his band to finish out the night with almost an hour and a half worth of cover songs and other goodies (including some break dancing by Mark). Never again will I hear Mark singing "Let's Get It On"!!!!! This was probably one of the best concerts I've ever been too and I look forward to seeing Athenaeum a million times more!!! As I said earlier, this concert can be described with one word- AWESOME!!!!!!!!!(ktowngirl@cabarrus.k12.nc.us)
Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel, Providence, RI
- You guys were absolutely great. Following the Dixie Possums you made us realize how much talent you have. You managed to outshine the main band, Better than Ezra. Everyone loved you! IT was a great concert in a dingy club, the best kind.(Phanties@hotmail.com)
October 28, 1998 at Instant Karma, Houston TX - I saw Athenaeum at Instant Karma in Houston...it kicked so much ass. I'm going back reading the interviews with the band and reviews and stuff and I'm thinkin' I'm such the sterotypical fan, but I don't particularly care, because everything they say is true. Athenaeum is the type of band that electrifies you. One of my good friends was crying by the end of the show...it's fantastic. She was drooling over Grey too...it was funny. I was just happy...I grinned for the rest of the week. PIOKO (pioko@aol.com)
August 5, 1998 - Crowbar, State College, PA - While I was waiting in line I saw Grey (guitar) and started talking to him and took pictures, he was really awesome...once I went in me and like 2 other people were the only ones who were really getting in to it..I was jumping and singing their songs, it was awesome..Mark (lead vocals) kept looking at me and smiling and he noticed the crazy animal in front of him..He threw a pick and My g/f got it..the put up a KICK A$$ concert...After the concet they were the friendlies people you could ever meet...we took pictures they sign my set list..I was talking with Mark for 15 min. about Toad, the road, future stuff, etc.This is what I got from WED. concert:
* Athenaeum Setlist (sign by everyone but Alex who went to the hotel couse he was sick)
*3 drum sticks
* Pick
* PICTURES
*they signed my tickets
*Black lab poster with all their signatures
If you have the opportunity to see Athenaeum live..don't miss it..and do what you can to meet them, they are aweseom to talk to, and if you already saw them in concert then you know what I'm talking about..
Sorry I wrote so many chapters.lol

July 7, 1998 - House of Blues Myrtle Beach - After seeing the band perform in Columbia at Mayfest , I had to see them again . This was the best show by far I have seen . And I plan to make every show of theirs I can . It was a very good crowd at the beach and the energy was high . I nearly tackled this one chick for a gutiar pick but she put up a better fight ( she actually leaned over the rail and almost fell to get it ) I figure she earned it , although I REALLY WANTED THAT PICK. All in all , a great show . To the Band--- thanks (I was the guy up front going crazy). (TroposFEAR@aol.com)
Tuesday, July 28th, 1998 - Toad's Place, New Haven, CT -
Unfortunately, there was not much on the radio promoting this concert...so the attendance was not so great. Athenaum hit the stage after Black Lab (who they are currently touring with) and Eclectic Nobody's... who are a local band..and weren't 1/2 bad! =)They opened with Flat Tire and got the crowd going. Of course I'm speculating.. cuz I was right smack up against the stage in awe..and I didn't dare turn around to see people behind me and risk missing even a second of what was going on onstage!! They played every song off Radiance except for "Anyone"..don't ask me for the order.. cuz someone stole the setlist off the stage before I could! hehe. They played a song from the Beatles, which name escapes me now...Grey sang...he was great!! "Comfort" and "Suddenly" a new one.. which was just as awesome as what's on Radiance already! and to whoever posted that previous review.. Mark smiled all night here as well...hehehe. They left the stage, came back out..and played 3 more songs. When it was all over, we (Monique, Gary, and I) decided to hang around for a bit, see if we couldn't catch a glimpse! Nothing was going on..and no one really seemed to be paying us much mind, so we walked downstairs to where Athenaeum was "hanging out" after the show. There were a few of us in the hallway.. waiting...when Mark came to the door and greeted us..and Grey shouted out, "come on in, make yourselves comfortable".. so.. we did! =) Monique and I got our Athenaeum T-shirts signed.. which now we can't wear =(.. should've bought 2!! and got to talk to them all a bit. Their personalities were as great as their music. Each one thanked us for coming, buying their cds, shirts, etc...for basically just supporting them. Mark asked about air play here in CT...and unfortunately, we had to tell him.. not a whole heck of alot..yet.. but I'm working on that! ;) All in all.. the only thing I can really tell you.. is they were phenomenal. I wouldn't miss seeing them live again for anything. I was glad the turn out was small, or we might never have gotten to meet them..but for the band's sake, I hope next time they pop into CT for a show.. the place is packed!!! I'm going to do everything I can to get the word out more here in CT
dee <~3 days later...and STILL in awe.... (DeeMax@aol.com/MaxAllen1@aol.com)
May 29 1998, E Centre - Camden, NJ - Athenaeum was totally cool in concert. Mark smiled the whole time, and they sounded great! Overall, the Feztival was a great experience and we plan to go again next year!!! However, Athenaeum and Black Lab were the best bands there! I can't wait to see them again!
