Using a Computer Aided Design (CAD) program, Golfsmith's designers stretched the head to the USGA's limits, with heel-to-toe length of just under five inches, very close to its face-to-back breadth. The resulting square shape works in conjunction with a sweeping sole design, moving mass back to the heel and rear toe areas of the clubhead. The construction features 6-4 titanium in the face, perimeter and body, with a lightweight, thin titanium crown and sole inserts, so more mass can be placed in the perimeter. "Simply put, the Mamba driver concept is basically a square-shaped doughnut," says Jeff Sheets, Vice President of Research and Development for Golfsmith. "It's light in the middle, thanks to a CAD-developed material thickness diagram that places more weight around the perimeter. This maximizes the CG (center of gravity) location and MOI (moment of inertia), creating an incredibly forgiving driver." This modern square shape is different than the traditional driver shape, but our testing staff says that this new shape is easy to get used to as your drivers go long and deep down the middle of the fiarway, even on hits made off center.
