May 26 Having existed for over 5,000 years, China is in a constant state of redevelopment. Huge city blocks are torn down to make way for new ones and people work around the clock in order to finish projects. It's amazing to look around and see a skyline full of skyscrapers, towers, cranes and half-completed projects. And you know that in just a few weeks, those buildings will be completed.
There was an article in the Shanghai Daily that caused some excitement today. Apparently, there was a steward working on a train going from Guagzhou to Shanghai on the weekend that had been exposed to SARS. He was working in car #2 and took a break on car #3. As a result, everyone in these cars are being tracked down in order to be quarantined. There was some question as to whetherthis was the train we were on (we were in car #3) when we were returning from Shaoxing. Anyhow, it turned out to be a different train, so we're okay!
