Am sitting at the Starbucks (a little piece of home!) in Xintiandi to meet with people at 1:00. I gave myself a long time to get here in case I got lost, but I didn't, so now I've got half an hour to kill! That's fine, I'll just sit here and drink my 27 RMB mocha frappucino. For lunch, we're going to a Japanese restaurant for sushi, and tonight, we're having a big dinner because it's Luc and Mia's last day here. After that, we go dancing!

Most of the Chinese kids didn't seem to like sushi.

I used to have good posture. Now it's totally wrecked. I've gotten so used to slouching while I eat, that now I do it all the time!

I like the traffic lights here! They go from green to yellow to red, back to yellow and then red, so drivers start to go when the light turns yellow!

Now I know why thay say that Canadians are so polite. But I don't think it's so much that we're polite but that the Chinese have ne consideration for other people. When waiting in line to get on the bus or train, they wil push and shove and basically do anything to get in front of you, inluding climbing over seats and using their luggage as a weapon! They'll never let an old person sit down on public transpotation. And they have no concept of personal space! While a Canadian will give you breathing space, the Chinese will have no problem squishing right up against you. And if they accidentally elbow you or step on your toe, don't expect an apology. The other day, I pushed open a door, accidentally hitting a woman on the elbow. When I apologized, she laughed at me as if it was the funniest thing she had ever heard!

We're so spoiled! Some of the Tongji students gave us presents today! Some were even hand-made! They are the sweetest! I'm going to miss them. But Frances says she's going to come and visit in September!

The whole time I've been in Chna I have not seen even one fortune cookie.
