May 23 Bad day today. I was sick all last night (was it something I ate?) and therefore got no sleep. I wouldn't suggest being sick in a room where the toilet doesn't work. Was feeling nauseous and didn't eat all day. However, we left Shaoxing and took the train back to Shanghai. Now we're back at the good old Shen Wang Hotel with the functioning toilets! Good old Shen Wang: Prostitutes call the rooms every night at around 10:00. If a girl answers, they hang up. If a guy answers ("Nihau!"), they speak. And once they hang up, you can hear the phone ringing in the next room! Apparently, this is how they do their business!
Mia went to the beauty salon to get her hair streaked. I had been talking about getting my hair cut and Luc asked me if I would go with Mia. Fearing a lack of communication and the possibility of a botched haircut, I declined. When Mia got back she had peroxide blonde hair with purple streaks! Well, I'm certainly glad I didn't go!
