May 16 Sitting at a restaurant in Xintiandi with Mia. We've just had our first encounter eith a fork since we got here! And the waitresses are dressed in traditional German outfits. Looks kinda funny considering they're Chinese.
Today, Frances was talking about how babies are named here in China. It must be appropriate to the child and it can apparently take several days for the parents to come up with a suitable one. The family name (which comes first)has no particular meaning, but the given one does. Frances explained the two girls names to me as well as her own. Frances' real name, Yang Tiao Yun, is roughly translated as "The moon's aura rises from the east at the end of the month". She tells me she was born during a full moon at the end of the month of April.
I've come to the conclusion that all Chinese girls giggle. What is also funny is the amount of people that go out in public in their pajamas. They walk down the streets, ride their bicycles and go to the store in pajamas! Mia also pointed out that the girls tend to wear the same outfit two days in a row before changing it.
