May 17 Uh, oh, went for karaoke last night! Not my favorite hobby! But it was alright. I even sang a song (Hey Jude)! Karaoke is a big past-time in China, and the place we went to was pretty neat. It looked like an old remodeled hotel. The building was about ten storeys high and every group gets its own private room! So we got a room on the ninth floor, and it had a big leather couch that curved around three walls and the wall by the door was for the big screen TV where the videos played. There was even a little store down the hall where you could buy snacks and drinks!
Had a picnic with the Tongji University crew today. We took a 1/2 hour bus ride to the park. Shanghai Gonqing Forest Park is rather amusing! It costs 12 RMB to get in. There's huge green spaces with occasional trees (all full of abandoned kites!) and there's a small amusement park. Sébastien, Félix and I went on a log ride! Some of the group played paintball, and you can even go horseback riding. We had an excellent meal (we bought all kinds of good stuff at Wu Mei), then played soccer, hackey sack, badminton and frisbee. At the end of the day we all excanged e-mail addresses with the Tongji students.
