History of Showchoir by Mike Weaver

Welcome to the internet home of the TC Singers!

The TC Singers are a competitive showchoir hailing from Triton Central High School in Fairland, Indiana, a rural community 25 miles southeast of Indianapolis. They are comprised of around 30 high-achieving Triton Central High School students ranging from Freshman to Seniors.

Over summer break, the TC Singers hold a 2-week camp in June to learn a show to be performed at the end of camp at the Fairland Fish Fry. When school resumes in August, they begin learning a Fall show. This past show consisted of  an eclectic mix of songs, ranging from "Startin' Somethin'" by Michael Jackson to "Stand Out" by Tevin Campbell (as heard on "A Goofy Movie"). The Singers practice about twice a week after school and perform this show for their Fall Preview show at the TCHS Auditorium, as well as a fall contest held at Glen-Este High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.

At the conclusion of the Fall contest, the Singers begin learning music for a Christmas show. They perform several Christmas songs that are choreographed by members of the group. The Singers perform this show many times throughout the community, and it is also a good chance for members of the community to see the group perform. This past year, they performed for Heritage Manor residents, the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, and Major Hospital volunteers (amongst others); as well as holding a Pancake Breakfast along with the TC Chamber Choir, and performing at the TCHS Holiday Concert with the concert band, chamber choir, and concert chorus.

At the height of the many Christmas performances, they begin to learn the contest show. The Singers spend 14 hours the weekend before Christmas Break to learn choreography, and countless more cleaning it and learning vocals. When they return from Christmas break, they begin practicing 3-5 times a week to prepare. In early February, the Singers start to compete at various showchoir contests around the region.

At the conclusion of the contest season, the Singers learn choreography and music for several new songs to be performed at their annual Spring Thing show in early May. The Singers traditionally end the Spring Thing show by performing their contest show.
