Hello there. My name is Michael Mathison. I was born in Calgary Alberta, Canada, March 15th, 1964. I was raised in a family with five older brothers, and two older sisters. Up until 1999, I never really went anywhere. Farthest west I have been is |
| Elko B.C., farthest east, North Battleford, Saskatchewan. To the north, I have been to Red Deer, and to the South, "Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump". The only time I have ever been out of the country, was the hour I spent in Eureka Montana. I majored in Fine Arts, and have a B.F.A. from the UofC. I have an interest in magic, and a passion for apologetics (giving reasons for believing in the Christian faith). |

| The picture to the right is the
Calgary Tower. Formerly the "Husky Tower", the
Calgary Tower was officially opened on June 30th, 1968,
and has become the City of Calgary's most famous and
identifiable physical landmark. Though now 31 years old,
the Calgary Tower is still the 3rd tallest structure in
the city and a must see on any tourist's itinerary.
Throughout the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, an Olympic
Torch burned non-stop at the top of the Tower. The Tower
is 190.8 meters in height, and stands 1,228.2 meters
above sea level at the observation deck. The Tower is
served by 2 - 25 passenger high speed elevators which
travel to the top in 62 seconds. If you want to see what Calgary looks like now, click here |

| The next part of my story involves the lovely lady that you see to the left. Her name is Mary, and I met her on the internet in 1998. I was cruising on the net at an amazing speed of 1200 baud on an Atari ST. I wandered into a chat site, one of the few that supported Lynx (a text only browser), and found a friendly group on WBS's Christian 30 Something. I would provide a link to it here, but sadly, it no longer exists. |
I was talking to some people there, when she waltzed in. She described herself as bald, toothless, and cross-eyed. I had no idea, with my Atari, I could not see if she had a picture or not. I started talking to her, and playing with her on-line. I would tell jokes, and because of my computer's limited speed, I would find that she had typed in my punch line before I could even begin to type. This irritated me, and before long I was trying to think of the most obscure jokes I could find in order to beat her.
The more I got to know her, the more I got to like her, until I found myself looking for her every time I got on the net (at that time I only had access 4 times a day, one hour at a time). There were times when I had missed her, and had to wait 20 hours until the next time I could log on. After about 6 months of meeting like this, I put down $600 and got myself a better system, and changed to unlimited access to the net.
Finally (after a year of talking to her) I convinced Mary to post a picture of herself. I had already fallen in love with her words, and I desired to assure her that her looks would not put me off. Imagine my surprise when I found out that she was so beautiful.
A few months after that we finally decided that it was time for us to talk voice to voice. For me, it was just one good thing after another. Quick wit, charming humor, pretty face, and a lovely voice. She was everything I wanted in a woman.
August1999, she came to Calgary to meet with me face to face. I could not let her go back alone, so I packed up all of my stuff, and moved to the U.S.

September 25th, 1999, we were married. It was the best day of my life. Now this city boy is living in the country, learning how to ride a horse, living with chickens, and children. | ![]() |
