My Favorite Hints

Here are my favorite hints. Please enjoy yourself and don't work to hard.

Like to "weigh" a letter without a postage scale:

Put a 12 - inch ruler on your desk and balance in on a pencil at the 6 inch mark. Place the letter you want to weigh on the 9 inch mark of the ruler. At the 3 inch mark place a stack of five quarters ( which weighs one ounce).

The side of the ruler with the quarters on it will stay down if the letter is less than one ounce!

Got Tar on Your Car?

The world's best tar remover is right in your refrigerator!

Just dip a clean rag in mayonnaise and spread it over the tar. Let it sit for a few minutes, the wipe your car clean with a soft cloth.

Never polish your silver again!

Just line a wide - mouthed one quart glass jar or cooking pan with aluminum foil, fill it with cold water, and add 2 tablespoons salt.

Drop pieces of tarnished silver into the water for 2 to 3 minutes, then remove them and rinse off the tarnish. No elbow grease required!

You may have a STUD-FINDER in your bathroom.

Need to find a stud or studs hidden behind the drywall?

Just get your electric razor out of the drawer, turn it on, and run it across the wall. When it comes to a stud, the buzzing sound will change dramatically, and you've found your stud.

Got a Fragile Package to Ship?

Why pay for packing material when you can protect breakable or fragile package contents by padding them with something you'd normally throw away. Like egg cartons.

The cartons will act as shock absorbers, minimizing the impact of rough handling as your precious cargo travels to its destination.

Let your Houseplants Water Themselves, when you go out of town.

Just put a big bucket of water in your bathtub, and set your plants around it. Cut ordinary household string in lengths long enough so that you can put one end in the soil and one end on the bottom of the bucket of water. Your plants will drink enough through these staws (strings) to survice your temporary absence.

Sure fire Skunk Repellent

Got a skunk in your garage, or under your home?

You'll find that Skunks hate the smell of perfume - and you can use that bit of trivia to keep them out of your woodshe, your garage, or any place else they've been visiting.

Just cut the foot and ankle off an old nylon stocking, then douse a handful of scrap yarn with perfume and tuck in inside your improvised pouch.

Close the top, tie it in a knot, and leave it anyplace you want to discourage skunks!
