Ajax-Pickering Transit Authority

Last updated September 5th, 2002
APTA

Ajax-Pickering Transit Authority (APTA) is the new name for the merged Ajax Transit and Pickering Transit systems. Initially, there was little physical change in operations since the merger, aside from the fact that ten former Pickering buses were reassigned to the Ajax Transit facility but remained operated by Pickering drivers on Pickering routes. The Pickering garage, a shared municipal facility, continues to house about 15 buses whose assignments are primarily in west Pickering. Both of the former systems continue to publish separate timetables at this time, though one combined system map can be expected in the not-too-distant future. One early change was the addition of the new APTA logo (and name in some cases), which appeared on a number of buses. The first unit to appear in the full new paint scheme was a Pickering Transit Orion VI.

The first bus in either the Ajax and Pickering fleets to be renumbered and wear the new APTA paint scheme. However, the official roster says that this is formerly Pickering Orion VI number 937, while Pickering 927 (pictured near the top of the page) became APTA 2018.
