Charles Corey, Founder of Agape Love Corner, says he has always had love for people. So when he graduated from high school, he went to college and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, at the University Of Illinois; only to graduate and not know what area of Social Work he would use his degree in.
He decided to get his Master's Degree in Public Administration; after finishing his course work, he pondered over what he would do his thesis on; so he decided to take some time off and explore different options. During his hiatus, he got a job in Financial Aid Counseling at Akers Computerized Learning Center in Atlanta Georgia; he soon realized, this was not the type of counseling he wanted to do. Corey returned to springfield, and enrolled in a 12-week substance abuse course, to recieve a certificate in substance abuse counseling; this abled him to do volunteer work for the Gateway Foundation where he put in over six hundred hours of training.
From this point, his life took several turns. Needless to say, his personal trials has taught him the value of unmerited suffering. As his sufferings mounted he soon realized that there were two ways in which he could respond to his situation; either he could react with bitterness or seek to transform the suffering into a creative force, he chose to follow the latter course.
Corey says, recognizing the necessity for suffering, he tried to make of it a virtue. If only to save himself from bitterness he has attempted to see his personal ordeals as an opportunity to transfigure himself and help in healing the people involved in the tragic situation which now obtains.
Corey has lived these last few years with the conviction that unearned suffering is redemptive. Corey believes, there are some who still find the cross a stumbling block, and others consider it to be foolishness, but he is more convinced than ever before that it is the power of God unto social and individual salvation. Corey says, like the Apostle Paul, he can now humbly, yet proudly, say, he bears in his body the marks of the lord Jesus.
According to Corey, the only true way to help someone through counseling is to lead them to Christ. Corey stated, his personal and technical education has come together to give him the theme for his thesis. Therefore, Agape Love Corner was founded, and the underlying mission comes out of Ezekiel 34:16.
