"A little love can go a long way in helping someone manage their addiction," says the ministry founder. The ministry's mission comes out of Ezekiel 34:16: "To seek those who are lost, to bring back those who are driven away, to bind up those who are broken, and to strengthen those who are sick." This promise made by God can be applied to those who are chemically dependent.
The ministry founder, reflects his talent as a certified counselor through years of preparation and training as well as his education received at the University of Illinois, which has propelled him to design a program through the inspiration given by God through the Holy Spirit. The program is based on the Christian principle of Agape Love. Giving of yourself without yielding to a "what's in it for me?" attitude best describes this type of love.
Agape Love Corner has found a way to open closed doors of chemical dependency. Customers can request sending $10.00 of every $50.00 purchase they make from Agape's online gift shop to a person in prison, county jail, or treatment center to let them know someone cares. A portion of the proceeds are also distributed to the Agape Love Corner Foundation. The Foundation consists of a facility to house individuals once they are released from these institutions. "This is what we call the Triangle of Love," says the ministry founder. "You buy a gift for a friend or family member; you send a financial gift to a friend or loved one in a distressful situation, and help in providing shelter for a stranger all in one act of giving."
Giving not incarceration is a big part of recovery. "Our program is based on care, respect, and service," explains Corey. "Our program tells us to practice these principles in all of our affairs. No matter if it's getting to a meeting early to put on coffee or giving someone a ride, we are giving of ourselves." We give so that we know we can make a difference. We give so that we can know how to love better. The healing power of recovery is LOVE. As we give love and kindness to others, we heal. Why? Because, God said, "There is no door love can't open."
