college on a weekly basis. Specific tasks include laying a solid foundation in
grammar; and teaching effective communication techniques, various writing styles, and
public speaking. A forty session Western Cultural Literacy course guides students to the
individuals, concepts, movements, and events that shaped and directed the West. Students
are assisted in preparing for the Scholastic Aptitude Test, guided through the
Occupational Outlook Quarterly, encouraged to plan majors and minors, identify colleges
and universities, prepare personal statements and essays for application, prepare resumes,
portfolios of accomplishments, and bound writing samples. Accomplishments include
developing a successful word-of-mouth service for parents and students who desire to
solidify learning skills, consistently earn top grades, enter Advanced Placement course,
make the Honor Roll, and go to college with both a plan, direction, and a real sense of
self-confidence.
