Charter Member of the River to River Runners Club

Kevin Reveal, a member of the Board of Directors of the River to River Runners, was killed in a tragic accident on September 29, 1996, while helping to put out a fire in Hurst, Illinois. He died of head injuries, received after a two-story brick wall collapsed on him and other firefighters.

Kevin Is Remembered By The River to River Runners Club Members...

"How do you remember Kevin? What is the one thing that stands out in your mind about him? (This was the question asked of several RRR members soon after Kevin's death)

Andy: His perennial smile.

Pete: I saw Kevin at a picnic on the day that he died. He was there with his children having just a great time- enjoying himself so much. Kevin was a club member who always did something when asked to do it.

Janet: I always remember his wild running shorts and how we always had a good laugh when Kevin was around.

John: The River to River Runners Club was started for Kevin by his father to support Kevin as a runner.

Rob: Extremely unselfish- he would give you anything he had more than anyone else I knew. He always called his friends. He made a better friend to me than I to him.

Jo Ann: He never failed to greet me. His smile was very charming.

Gordon: Before starting the River to River Relay, we went through several trials runs to find the best course. It was a really cold day, icy, and on this particular run we were trying to avoid major roads so the course took us through some muddy horse trails, creek beds, etc. Kevin was loving the whole experience, slipping and sliding, and laughing his head off. What that did for me--I saw how much Kevin was enjoying himself, and I just knew the Relay would be a sucess.

Everett: I don't think I knew anyone else like Kevin because he got the most out of the ability he had. He always spoke to us older runners.

Anna Mary: He was always a good competitor and friendly and he smiled to everyone he met.

Fred: "I'm going to kick your butt, today," is what Kevin used to say to me. I remember what a great race we had at a Molly-O 5K one year. We dueled it out to the very end at 17:01 and 17:04. He won. Another time Larry, Rob, Richard, Kevin, and I went to the Huntsville Marathon. We all ran together for the first 10 miles, and I decided to go ahead. Kevin passed me at the 20 mile mark and beat me by 6 minutes. He ran 2:50.

Ken: I remember the energy and enthusiasm that Kevin brought to our board meetings.

Chuck: We did several biathlons together. What I remember is the great ability he had to do biathlons.

Marion: He would always come up and greet me with a big smile.

Jeff: He was a happy-go-luck runner, but a fierce competitor.

Mary Anne: I didn't know Kevin, but he must have been an awesome runner because he inspired the creation of the River To River Runners.

Marvin: Two years ago at the Jim Gleason run, he passed me at the mile mark and left me!

Vera: One of the friendliest persons I have ever met. It was no matter to him that our age difference was so great; he'd always ask how my running was going.
