When the High Ones crashed onto the planet of Two Moons,
a small band of 11 ran away with a High One named Rhytel and his mate,
Arteiww. They took with them some of the Palace Helpers, the Trolls. A
High One names Shausa broke off a piece of the Palace shards and took it
with her, so the palace would be with them always.
After many moons of traveling, searching, Rhytel brought the small band
to a mountain in which they shaped a home for the High Ones and the
Trolls, where they could live in peace. Rhytel was named Lord of the
Feather Folk and also called Rhytel the Fairheart, for his
evenhandedness in dealing with the changing High Ones and Helpers.
All of the high Ones who went with Rhytel had the ability to Glide. So
when the first child born to them was not a glider, but did have the
power to heal. The term Groundling was made. Jaunt was the first to
carry that name, and for a while, it was also a sign of shame.
A High One named Terek helped two other Gliders, Kilina and Harec
capture two wild giant hawks. Terek helped train the birds to be mounts
with the Gliders. Thru his children and their children, a position of
"Eggkeeper" was created. It usually goes to a Groundling who
can help keep the eggs warm (a small firestarting ability) and they must
care for the eggs when the hawks are not around.
Two major happenings occurred while Rhytel was Lord. A lone elf wandered
into the mountain named Ti'Anna and she was a very strong
healer/anti-healer/fleshshaper and she had many other hidden talents.
She was welcomed into the Mountain with opened arms.
It is not until later when she changes her name to Nightbringer does her
evil personality come out. The other thing is an all out war between the
Elves and Trolls breaks out over the piece of Palace shard. The shard is
stolen by the trolls and Rhytel is killed. His son, Keihl is named Lord.
Keihl leads the elves against the trolls and takes back the Shard. He
also moves the elves to their current mountain home and re-names them
The Eyrie. After settling in the mountain, a plague infects the mountain
and many of the elves are killed. During this plague, Tenshi recognizes
the healer, Ti'Anna. She saves him and as many of the others that she
could. Their number dwindles down to 20. After they recover from the
plague, the Gliders begin to prosper again. Ti'Anna helps the Gliders
get pregnant without the aid of recognition. After helping aid the
births of more than 15 children, Ti'Anna's healing ability turns into
anti-healing and she starts to harm elves by accident.
Keihl is pleased with the Gliders and divides the Gliders into three
Winggroups, the Black, Blue and Gold. He proclaims that the Lord of the
Eyrie will always lead the Black Group and that the other two
Wingleaders must prove themselves before they can be picked for the
position.
During his reign as lord, he recognizes twice and produces three
children, Stormcall, Ravenshadow and Kierrl. Kierrl dies young when he
tries to ride one of the great hawks and it dives down and he falls of
it's back. He dies instantly. Tenshi also is hurt in an accident when
his hawk breaks a wing when it collides into a mountain. Tenshi falls
into the forest and into a pool of high ones magic with his bird. The
end result is the bird dies and Tenshi grows wings out of his back.
Tenshi already has one daughter, Shi'Sha, with his lifemate, Ti'Anna. He
ended up recognizing two more times while recognized to Ti'Anna and he
produced two Winged Offspring with them and a winged son with Ti'Anna.
When the winged elves were old enough, another Winggroup was formed
named The Silverwing and only winged elves could be in it.
One day Tenshi is out hunting with one of his sons and is captured by
trolls. He is assumed dead because he never returns. His fate is not
revealed until later. Ti'Anna in her grief changes her name and retreat
into the lower parts of the mountain.
Years later Rhytel is found dead in his chambers, poisoned from an
unknown liquid. Stormcall and Ravenshadow take over as Lord and Lady of
the Mountain.
Stormcall and Ravenshadow shared their positions because they did not
want to fight and it would seem better for the Feather Folk if they
joined together. They started to let their tribemates venture outside.
This led to the discovery of the Shadow Vale elves and a recognition
between Aieleo and Shadowmyth. Stormcall was not pleased at losing a
member of his tribe, yet Ravenshadow saw it as a way for them to join
forces with the other elves. When Aieleo brings her first cub into the
Eyrie, before she can present him to the Lords she falls down a flight
of stairs holding the cub. The cub dies and Aieleo blames one of the
Eyrians, saying they are jealous of her and wanted her child dead. She
leaves the mountain and never returns. It is never spoken of, yet
suspicions are aroused, accusations fly and then the subject dies. No
one knows that it was Nightbringer.
Now the troubles begin in the Eyrie, such troubles as they have not
had in years. Ties with Shadow Vale are broken when word of Aieleo's
death arrives. Babies are born stillborn or just one child is born,
Recognitions happen less and less. At this time, there are no more
healers and they become stagnant. Years of dispair is laid in the
mountain. Ravenshadow dies in what looks like a hunting accident and
Stormcall is blamed since he and one other, Blacktalon were the only
ones with her. Stormcall stays as Lord and the unexpectant happens, he
recognizes a groundling and after two miscarriages, he finally becomes a
father and has a daughter named Rainstar. The sun starts shining again
on the Eyrie. More recognitions happen and soon some more Winglie's are
born. The tribe starts to thrive.
After a century or two, a few trolls enter the mountain and steal the
palace shard again. Another war erupts, only this time the trolls are
met with a powerful force due to the Winglies. The only casualty is
Stormcall. Rainstar is young at this age and because of it,
Nightbringer emerges from her reclusiveness. The High One thinks
Rainstar an easy target and tries to manipulate her. Rainstar sees
through Nightbringer and has her caught and thrown into a rock cell.
Nightbringer escapes by killing the guards and flees into her lower
chambers. She uses her powers and erases her coup from everyone's
memories. Rainstar still feels uneasy around her and
banishes her from the throne room and from her sight at all times.
The High one retreats back to her chambers only to plot again.
Rainstar recognizes and has two cubs, a winglie named Mistfire and a
glider named Nightwing.
Rainstar raises both cubs as equals, but makes it very clear that
Nightwing will be named Lady of the Eyrie in the event of her death due
to the fact that the Lord must be a glider.
She believed that having Wings did not count for being a Glider.
This causes much hatred between Rainstar and Mistfire. Mistfire
eventually breaks all ties with Rainstar and leaves the mountain.
Rainstar follows and is never heard from again, and her fate is not
known to anyone.
Nightstar takes the Lordship already recognized and about to have birth.
Her son, Truehawk is born. Nightstar starts to communicate with
her people more effectively then the other Lords and learns exactly what
it is they expect from her. She starts top give them a bit more
freedom and eventually lets them re-establish communication with the
Shadow Vale elves. She does however place a no-relationship rule
because she does not want to have any problems with the other tribe.
Many of the Eyrians are thrilled, yet most are scared.
Almost a thousand years go by with Nightwing as Lord. She is found
one day sitting on her throne asleep. When they tried to wake her,
she was dead.
No foul play was suspected, it looked as if she died of Heart failure.
Truehawk took over as Lord and was lovemated to the new healer, Dawnglow.
He recently recognized her and they have a daughter, Sehria.
Truehawk is the Current Lord of the Eyrie and rules with a steady but
firm hand.
There are three groups in the Eyrians. Each have some specific
rules, most are the same.
Gliders: A glider is an elf who is born with the ability to glide upon
the
wind currents. They are tested at birth for the ability and if they do
not show
the talent by the first year, they are considered Groundlings. A Glider
is the
only one who can bond with the Great Hawks and they do so around the age
of
15-17. After 1 full year of Hawk Training, they are entered into a Wing
Group.
They are not given a choice in which group they are placed, it basically
goes to
the Group with the least amount of members. If a Wing Leader is
displeased with
a glider, the glider is placed on Grounded status and will be punished
until the
Wing Leader is satisfied. It is also looked upon as a distraction if two
Gliders
in the same Winggroup lovemate, however recognition is a different
matter.
Groundlings: A Groundling is an elf who is born with an ability other
than
Gliding. They are tested at birth as well and if no signs of a talent
surface by
the age of 5, they are considered a Groundling. Their talents range from
major
to minor. Groundlings are not allowed the privilege of having a bondbird,
however they may have small pets. Each Groundling has his or her own
function,
whither it is as a Healer or Eggkeeper, they have their own special
duties. They
are also responsible for the preparation of food, making cloths and
other
mundane tasks that the Gliders do not have to do.
Winglies: A Winglie is an elf born with wings. It does not matter if
they are
born with a talent or gliding ability, their wings mark their position.
A
Winglie is not allowed to have a Bondbeast because their own wings
should
support their weight. A Winglie is also has their own Wing Group and
only elves
with wings are allowed in it. They are responsible for the defense of
the
mountain. It is very uncommon for a Winglie to be born. There are about
1 in
every 25. It is very rare for a Winglie to recognize another Winglie, it
is even
rarer for a Winglie to be born to a Winglie. It has happened, it can
happen
again. But it is very rare. Winglie’s have a Wingspan of about 10-15
feet in
length and it causes their heights to increase. The average height for a
Winglie
including Wingspan is about 6’5-7’0, this depends upon Wingspan.
Soulnames: They do not have them.
Blood: All the Eyrie’s are pure blooded as thus far no mixed blooded
elves
have mated with anyone…….yet
Wanderers: Wanderers are not allowed, period. All inhabitants of the
Eyrie
are born there. There have been some wanderers who have entered the
mountain by
mistake, but they never stay. Nightbringer makes sure of that. One
Eyrian left
and returned but he had to fight to be able to live in his home again.
Heights: Average heights are 5’0 - 6’0, 6’5 - 7’0 for Winglies.
Eyes: Eye color varies
Hair color: Varies
Talents: Magic is very strong in this tribe. ¾ of the elves are gliders
with
the other ¼ Winglie’s or Groundlings.
Homes: They each have their own chamber, like a bedroom. They can expand
their chambers when they recognize. Healers, Eggkeepers, Firestarters
and Lords
have the biggest chambers so far. Nightbringer considers the entire
mountain
floor her chamber, be warned not to go there uninvited.
Animal Friends: The Gliders bond with the Great Hawks. All others cam
have
numerous small pets. They frown on large creatures such as bears, wolves
and
huge cats, but it is not unheard of.
Humans/Trolls: They do not like either. The Trolls have entered the
mountain
and tried to steal the shard and it usually ends up in a war. They have
had some
dealings with the Humans, The Soothsayers who live near the mountain,
yet away
from Shadow Vale. They are not sure how the Humans found about them, but
they
have lost gliders and hawks to the humans. |
