Title: Academics and Technology, A look of the use of genre in the genre of academics in technology
-As our society moves further towards a technocracy, what methods are being used to teach technology. As well the benefits and disadvantages of inputting large amounts of technical information in a relatively short period of time, to individuals with broad technological experience.
Topic: The main topic is the nature of academic reading for technology, and the way it differs from convention academic teaching. In the fast moving world of high technology there is a need and expectation to learn new technology quickly and in detail. This project will give a comparative genre analysis between academic reading and academic technological reading.
Existing Knowledge: Please see knowledge deficit
Knowledge Deficit: Unfortunately no direct and concise knowledge base was found that was directly linked to this particular genre comparison. Although access to direct knowledge is unavailable, a comparative knowledge base is available in the forms of academic genres, and technological genres. Extrapolation will be required in this project.
Research Site: Research for this project was conducted in two different manners. Written materials which serve of the basis of the genre comparison are being used as the main source of knowledge. Also attendance in a comprehensive training program from February 19th 2001 through March 25th 2001 in conjunction with the English class 18.297X will serve as the “real world” research site.
Method: Data in its rawest form has been collected since September 2000, and is ongoing. Through the use of both written and non-written sources I will be examining, comparing and giving a genre analysis between academic reading and academic technological reading.
